Please consider volunteering for our study at the University of Essex! We are very much in need of volunteers in order to help us determine if we are able to develop a viable computer based treatment for anxiety disorders...

About the Study
The study is funded by the Wellcome Trust and forms part of a comprehensive investigation into anxiety vulnerability, with a view to developing a computer-based treatment.
Taking Part
The study consists of a series of questionnaires asking you about your anxiety and how you feel generally. Following this the main exercise will be to complete a series of computer tasks where you will be asked to make some judgements about faces appearing on a screen. You will then complete further questionnaires. Rest breaks are incorporated into the task and you may take as long as you wish. On average this takes approximately 2 ½ hours.
Selection for Groups
There are two groups a 'control group' and a 'test group' - selection for groups is random and therefore you have a 50/50 chance of being selected for either group.
We must emphasise that the research does not constitute a treatment for your anxiety difficulties, as we are still at a developmental stage.
If you are interested in taking part, one of our Research Officers will contact you briefly to discuss the anxiety you experience and to confirm your suitability for the study. We can then arrange a time for you to come in to the University to meet our Clinical Psychologist for a more in-depth discussion and to undertake the exercise.
If you are interested in taking part, please could you provide us with a contact telephone number and details of convenient contact times for us to call you. If you have not done so already, please could you also indicate your hometown so we can take in to account travelling distances. Please note that all travelling expenses will be reimbursed.
