I have been havnig bad panic attacks recently, and one thing that happens to me EVERY TIME I EAT for thepast month, even without a panic attack, is a have a hard time swallowing, I feel like it gets stuck in the back of my throat, like I am going to breathe it in, chocke to death. Sometimes I have to hack it out and reswallow it. I also get very bad dry thick mucus feeling which makes me feel like I am choking. My question is, is this normal? Is it liekly that I will choke? Is the sensation of it sticking and choking me leading me to the wrong conclusion (ie shoud i just let it be and not cough it out??) It has made eating a horrible experience and it, above all other panic "symptoms" is the most intrusive on my life. [Sigh...]I guess I just am wanting to hear what other people have to say, if anyone else has similar exerpiences etc...

thanks

hi Ana,

Welcome to the forum!! :)

Swallowing and throat sensations often affect people with anxiety/panic attacks. You will not choke so please son't worry about that. It is just the anxiety making you feel this way and tricking you..

Hi Inzombia

I had the same problem about 3 months ago..I found rather than having a big plate of food in front of me I would "pick" at food and take very small bites...the symptoms went away as quick as they came after about a month.

Hope this helps.
