I have been on escitalopram for 2/3years 20mg a day . For the last 2 weeks I have reduced to 10mg a day under the guidance of my psychiatrist . However I am not due to see him for another 4weeks and wonder how quickly i can come off it. Withdrawals symptons so far are feeling very weak, nauseous and some mild head aches. Any advise how long does it take to come off and do you feel worse before you feel better?

Hi Lucy Jane, I was on escitalopram for approx 9 months and was also on 20mg a day. I tried coming off them on my own but did it too quickly and had to increase again. I then successfully managed to stop them but had to do it very very gradually over weeks and weeks, gradually halfing the dose and then taking a very low dose on alternate days before finally stopping. My main problem was a feeling like 'zaps' in my head which were very uncomfortable and did carry on for a little while after I stopped.

I would definitely follow the psychiatrists advice and dont try to rush things.

Hope this helps
