Hi i'm new here,
I suffer from BDD - Bodily Dismorphic Disorder
OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Social Phobia
Depression
Agoraphobia (as a result of BDD) Can go out but only accompanied

Not on any medication as can't afford it & my Fiancee' works full time, so don't get any help on the NHS

Looking forward to meeting new people, making new friends, hearing from people with similar problems as myself.

Would love to hear from anyone who is working from home & could help me out with getting similar work, or from anyone who knows of any organisations who can help people with disabilities to find work.

Hi Ramishka,

What facet of BDD do you have and how does your OCD manifest itself ?

Medication is not always the answer but can help.

Do you mean the prescription charges ?

Even if this is a restrictive factor would you not be eligible for income support or similar where your prescriptions are then free.

Please can you explain in more detail what you mean by what facet off BDD do you have?

I have severe hatred of my body as a whole, it started with just my face & has got worse over time. I know that BDD sufferers all have different dislikes for different reasons - varies from person to person.

My OCD is in the form of repetative thoughts due to my self hatred with the BDD.

I'm not entitled to I.S. as my other half is in full time employment so I can't get any help financially, I do get DLA low rate but that's it. Hence I have to pay full wack for all prescription charges & seeing as we are in alot of debt we cannot afford the charges.

I prefer not to be on medication as I don't want suppressants, then it's the medication enableing me to do things not me doing it.

Hi welcome to the site.
I'm sure there will be people who can help you on this site.

The job centre will have people who help people with disabilites to find work. They can re train you and help in that way.....wouldn't you be entitled to job seekers allowance or even incapacity benefit to help in the meanwhile.

You may even have a phobic group in your area.
Hope this helps in some way.

with good wishes

Have you had other NHS non medicational therapy recently.

It is likely that if you could get the BDD to a manageble level the rest of your issues would subside as well.

I'm sorry that we're not experts on it here. We are very happy to welcome you and to support you in a general fashion but don't know enough to deal specifically with your BDD issues.

I'm sure you're already aware of the main BDD sites that may be able to offer you the additional specialist advice and further support that could make a difference but I've tagged a few on anyway

Hi Ramishka

Welcome aboard the forum.

I was in contact with a lady who was going to write me a piece on BDD for the website so I will chase her up again to see if she has done it yet.

Tried the jobcentre & they're absolutly useless, I'd found out more without them, asked them for more info on things I'd found & if they existed in my local area & they hadn't even heard of alot of it, they looked into it & told me they's get back to me, they did with some dudd contact numbers, leaving me very disheartened. :([V][Sigh...]

If they can't help & they're meant to know this stuff & to help people like me what the hell can I do on my own, I keep coming up with dead ends :(

Not entitled to any help financially as partner works full time, which winds me up. I've enquired, but no benefits available to me other than my DLA I'm already on - LOW RATE.

If I could go out & work I would, to get help with courses I need to be on benefits unless I can afford to pay for them, same with help for prescriptions, seeing as we're in debt we can't afford these things, my better half is finding it very difficult trying to support 3 people on his wage alone - one of his sons lives with us too.

I'll have to enquire about a phobics group, didn't know about that one, thanks :D

Thanks for that Meg, didn't know of these sites, only found american sites before, I'll take a look.

I'm going to an NHS charity run organisation named MIND - having counselling there but the therapist has never heard of BDD. The therapist I was meant to be seeing there originally (that had heard of & dealt with it before) left before the waiting list got to me, was very upset.

I'm also waiting to be seen by a place named Holmer Court for Cognitive Therapy & was under a Psychotherapist until end of last year (who again had never heard of BDD).

I've been in & out of counselling since the age of 11 & never found any one that's heard of it until this place (Holmer Court) that i'm waiting to be referred to.

I'm sorry that we're not experts on it here. We are very happy to welcome you and to support you in a general fashion but don't know enough to deal specifically with your BDD issues.

I don't want experts on BDD - Soz if it sounded that way, wasn't meant too, I just look forward to hopefully finding people I can relate to & talk to that have some understanding, that would be a great help to me at the moment. (On any issues)

I like your signature by the way

Hi Ramishka,

Interesting to read your post as I had never heard of BDD either (probably not a surprise to you), but as you are coming here to make new friends also, don't forget our chat room.

Its open 24/7 but business tends to pick up from 8.30

Oh say hi to JK from me - are you on his site as well?

My issues were panic attacks and anxiety for over 10 years. My main issues now are when driving and when I get stuck in traffic jams etc. I haven't had a panic attack for a long time now but I do get anxiety at times.

I'll say hi to JK for you, yes I'm registered on his site, only been on there a few days too, i needed to find something to help so that hopefully I don't feel so alone all the time, since joining these sites I'm excited about getting replies.

I can't join any old forum as I find it very hard to chat in general, needed people with understanding to communicate with.

Glad your panic attacks haven't occured for a while, I don't get mine too often, but that's because I avoid things so I don't get them, wrong I know, but with help I'm trying to work on this.

I take it you have Driving Phobia too?

Look 4ward to chatting to you

My main issue is driving yes. I have never stopped doing it but I get panicky when I am stuck in traffic jams or drving through roadworks.

I ended up in a contra-flow a few weeks back and that really freaked me out!!

You will get loads of support here and everyone will help you all they can and no-one ever judges anyone. We all understand each other's issues and although we all have different issues sometimes just a friendly word is all it takes to reassure someone.

Hope you stick around.
