What is a full blood count test called does anybody know? I had a blood test for three things a few weeks ago - one was Helibacter, another was liver and I can't remember what the other one was but I think the doctor mentioned white cells or something and that everything was fine with them.

Hello Jan, when i had my FBC last week and i got the results he said my white blood cells were slightly elavated because im pregnant so i would say if he mentioned it to you, you probably had a full blood count done. I just wonder if it would pick up anything sinister as i am having a crappy day

There is a special blood test for cancer but don't know if it's for all cancers or not. It's a CA125. I had it 17 years ago when I had an ovarian cyst which had to be removed along with my left ovary just after I had had my first baby and they did this test then unbeknown to me and when I went for some pre-blood tests prior to my operation I asked them if it could be cancer which I never thought it could but the doctor there said 'Yes I have to tell you it might be' because something in my blood had levels that were raised. Well I absolutely paniced and had to be put on valium for a week until my operation and I had my ovary and tube out but a couple of days later the doctor came to see me and told me everything was fine and I didn't have cancer and the ovary was healthy. So the blood test isn't always right.

hi hunny

a full blood count would show if you had any abnormalities and then further tests would be done depending on what the abnormalities were but it would definately show up problems if there were any:flowers:

Yes most def... not specific to type but yes it would show abnormality.

Your WBC (white blood cell) would be raised
Your neutrophils raised
Your RBC (red blood cell count) raised or dropped
Your lymphocytes raised

They would also check your CRP & ESR too which are inflammatory markers.
