Hello.
Instead of starting the citalopram that was prescribed, I started St John Wort today for my anxiety. Has anyone tried it and if so, was it effective??

Everyday I am waking up nervous and continuousy aware of my breathing, I'm sick of it. Has anyone else got this feeling?

Replies are welcomed.

Thanks x

My OH as just stopped taking St Johns wort because he felt that they were making him worse. He is now taking Kalms (only when he feels he needs them) and says they help ease his anxiety, depression and stress without the side-effects that SJW gave him.

Can you tell me what side effects your husband got from St john wort as I was thinking of trying it - I know they take up to 3 weeks to work.

St John's wort also can interact with other medication. So if you do try them don't forget to research the effect St Johns Wort can have on any other meds you take.

I'm taking SJW. I haven't noticed any side-effects. I'm still an HA nut-case though, so I don't know how much they help, either!

I tried SJW, nothing changed really.

I know in Germany they promote it for depression, but as with SSRI's I have my own view that meds designed for depression tend not to be so good at treating anxiety only.

I could be proven wrong here, but most people I have spoken to witth just anxiety never seemed to benefit from meds like SJW, SSRI's etc. Everytime i have heard someone praise these meds it always seems to be sufferers who have depression or anxiety and depression, as apposed to anxiety only.

I could be wrong, but it's just the impression I have had over my 10 years of reading.chatting about anxiety.

Good luck
