I now think it is nose cancer. Have a ct sinus scan tomorrow. Am so scared. The pain is bad. Have pain in my ears, it says on various websites, nose cancer causes pain deep in the ears.
So scared. I think this is it.

I also have a red sore on my nose now at the top. I think this is a cancer ulcer.:weep: :weep: :weep: :weep: :weep: :weep: :weep:

I wish I had your optimism. I can't bear it any longer. I'm frightened about the scan. I didn't know what it would be like before and now I do. You are so brave Trixie.

I don't think ive ever heard of anyone having nose cancer, I didn't think there was such a thing. Just goes to show what google can come up with eh? Fairy, i really think they're more likely to tell you its your sinuses. That can be soooo painful and can affect ears too.

Let us know what they say anyway...xxx :)

Hi Fairy, sorry to hear about your worries, but I must confess to having a little chuckle at your thread. Nerves are amazing things, and when we get sensitized to them, we become more aware of potential 'faults' within our bodies, and then comes the real fear that we have some underlying condition, like cancer, and we then panic more. We then dedicate every living second of our lives to this terrible affliction, utterly convinced that we indeed have the disease, but I can tell you right now that you do not have nose cancer, and the doctor who referred you to have the CT scan also knows you don't have cancer. You either have an infection, or inflammation, but nothing serious. Remember, the nose, ears and throat are all linked, so it's no surprise that your ears are hurting too.

As for the sore on the top of your nose.... it's not cancer either, I promise you.

I'm quite sure that this time tomorrow, you will be having a wee chuckle yourself when you read just how worried you were when you wrote this thread. Let us know how you got on.

House.

Hi

At least the scan was quite speedy. They didn't tell me anything though, I have to w8 till the results are sent to the consultant. Thanks for everyone's kind words. I have my rational moments where I think, these things I keep worrying about are rarer than they are common, but then there's always this little voice in the back of my head saying...you're the one FLH! Sorry for going on all the time :(

Panicing again, scared, i'm sure i'm dying. Head keeps tingling.....on the top, earache all day.

Would a radiologist be able to see/understand a scan? How long would it take for a consultant to contact you if they found something bad?????? HELP

Even if the radiographer saw something she wouldn't be able to tell you. They would have to be seen and read by a radiologist (who is a doctor usually a consultant).

The report would then be sent to the person who ordered the scan in the first place and they would send for you no matter what the result was.

Hi, if there was anything serious wrong (eg cancer) you would have heard by now. My friend was told within 24 hrs about his cancer. They don't hang about with that type of diagnosis! Hope that helps

Still haven't heard anything back yet? I'm sure you are fine then. I think they usually rush cancer results. Be sure to let us know when the scan comes back clear!!

I know how you are feeling. My HA comes in bouts that feed off of each other. This week for me its HIV and throat cancer. Both silly really(at least I hope so.) I woke up this morning with some swollen glands and then of course in my head...was a definate sign that I must have HIV...sigh. To live a life free of worry!

fairyloveheart
16-12-08, 23:52
Have you had a HIV test done???

No results back yet, I rang and the doc said, sorry normally takes 10 days, keep ringing every day this week. If I don't get them before Christmas, it will ruin christmas, but then if I get them and it is bad, it will ruin christmas :(
SCARED
Very worried now my glands are up, OH says it's a cold....

Rang consultant's secretary who said they have the scan results but the consultant hasn't looked at them yet and she can't tell me anything. She says she will print them off and ask him to look tomorrow...... but then to just wait for a letter....

Fairy, I can assure you that when the scan results are returned, there is a BIG RED FLAG on the ones which are more urgent, and the consultant has to address those ones first, for obvious reasons. I would imagine yours is somewhere near the bottom babe, so please try not to worry so much.

Trust me, if there was something serious going on, you would have heard way before now!

Fairy, just read back on everyones replies. If it was cancer they would tell you immediately and rush you through. Its called 'Fast track' and as a medical secretary (not a nurse sorry about that) I often saw results from consultants written to the GP I worked for, and if there was any cancer there would be immediate correspondence between the hospital and the GPs. Please try to accept that you don't have cancer.

Thanks Cathy and Trixie. I am sorry I sound like a stuck record all the time. I just am so worried, I feel like everything is on hold. My glands are all swollen, my neck looks fat with it, I feel awful, my nose hurts and I just keep imagining having to say goodbye to everyone.
I rang the secretary today and she said - I'll see if he wrote anything on the printout and ring you back, but she didn't :( so now I think she didn't ring back as it was something bad

They would have had a quick looksee when it was done and that would have been brought to the consultants attention to see you ASAP.

Sounds like you are not important enough to rate an early call back:D

In other words NOTHING SINISTER FOUND.

I've been there before - for me, it was lung cancer. I was so terrified that I had lung cancer. (I didn't, fortunately, but worrying about it 24/7 took about a week of my life away.) If you get too panicky, and not sure how your health insurance situation is, but what I usually do when I am panicking bigtime and in a terror waiting is this:

I goto the emergency room.

I describe my symptoms and they do the scan, xray, etc. right there and give me the results right there.

Might be stupid for me to do it this way, but I once went to the doctor and did not receive results for 2 weeks. It was pure hell and the more time that went by, the more panicked I became.

So, now, when I am really worried about weird pain, or sharp or disturbing pain, it's worth it to me to pay the extra $50 to head to the ER rather than my dr. who sends me to a specialist, who runs tests and sends me home to freak out.

At the very least, be calm and know that if you get too panicky, you can always do this and get your results instantly.

And chances are, you are fine. :)

HUGS!!!

Hi, I'd like to back up what's already been said so far - I recently had a brain scan and was very scared and upset when waiting. A nurse noticed I was upset and told me that if there is any major problem the particular unit you were assessed by is immediately told and you are told pretty much straight away the scan has been looked at. If you know that your scan has already been seen and it seems the consultant is just taking time to let you know the results, then this really IS good news. I know it might not make you feel much better, because when I heard this I continued to worry, but it really is the way it works.

Hey Fairyloveheart. I can really empathize with your worries because I have them too. This bit is important... If the medics at the hospital suspected for a moment that you had any type of cancer you would be admitted and dealt with in a flash. Doctor's don't hang about these days and they will always err on the side of caution if they truly suspect something is not right. Had the consultant had any doubts whatsoever he would have looked at your scans immediately and you would have been called in pronto.

There is nothing to worry about with your nose.. at worst you probably have something like a blocked sinus.

Whilst I do it myself, reaching out and constantly questioning your body and looking for reassurance will ultimately be counter productive. This is because the reassurance we get from others when we have a health anxiety is just a temporary fix. Within minutes we are doubting the reassurance and deconstructing the truth in our heads.

When I have a health anxiety I try very hard not to give it any power. I do this by trying to accept that we are all just an organism that varies hour by hour, week by week, month by month.. It would be a bit daft to think that our bodies don't 'glitch' or sometimes do odd things... strange bodily sensations, pains in odd places, aches etc. are an every day part of being a human being. Our bodies have an amazing capacity to 'right' themselves and our bodies are constantly correcting and readjusting to make us the wonderful living, breathing things that we are.

The word for this fantastic process is 'homeostasis' and this process is something that people with health anxiety find hard to believe in. I know it's hard to do it, believe me, It's taken me years (10 years plus), but if you can put your faith into your own body and trust that it will serve you brilliantly then it may help you take a step towards not worrying so much about your nose, or indeed any other part of your body.

Today, I have decided it is neck cancer or again a brain tumour. My neck has started aching over the past few months and is now starting to ache more often.... At first I thought it was using a laptop. Now I am convinced it is a tumour in the neck/spine or brain again. I still don't have the results back from the consultant. They were supposed to fax them to my GP on Friday, but they hadn't had them last thing.

Facial pain, nose pain, sinus pain, earache, now neck pain....

Jesus, you've rang every day, they should know how worried you are so they could at least take 5 minutes out and tell you what your result is.

Forgot to add this bit:

I had a blood test early this year, because i had symptoms of Glandular Fever, it took them a week to post me a letter, telling me to phone up and book an appointment for my results. I thought, oh my, they're going to tell me i've got throat cancer!

I had a tiny little throat infection, that i had to have anti-biotics for.

The message i'm trying to say is, even if your results are totally fine, you still need to waste your time booking an appointment for them to tell you you're fine!

But the others are correct, if you had cancer, you would MOST DEFINTALY have been told no later than 24 hours later!

Results came back ok..... no tumours in sinuses.... referral now to pain clinic.
I had a very frank discussion with the doc about brain tumours and she just said, they can't keep looking and if I had one, they wouldn't operate until it had some drastic symptoms anyway....would be watch and wait anyway.... i wish I felt relieved. I just don't... :(

Welcome to the world of sinusitis. I've had it for 15 years. The rubbing of your nose as its continuously blocked can lead to some really sore red patches on your hooter. And sometimes my earache is really bad. Its also a pain as I have panic attacks and it restricts your nasal breathing so I often gulp for air through my mouth. As we know this can bring about a panic attack.
There is a steroid inhaler you will get though. Just make sure you use unlike me just looked at it. That opens up your sinuses. Antibiotics will kill any infection. Very worst case scenario is a clean out operation. Problem with them is they usually need to be repeated every 6 months which sort of isn't feasible. Its like getting your ears syringed. Once you pop you can't stop.

hi fairy
i know where you are coming from - i have been like this for 5 months and it has led to anxiety and mild depression.
it sounds definitely like sinusitis, my doc has told me finally after 5 months of worrying that i have chronic sinusitis and all my symptons are the same as yours. When you go to the pain clinic or doc see if they will refer you to ENT Ear Nose and Throat as they will be able to look at yor sinuses in detail.
take care and try not to worry
