Basically I have M.E which at the moment makes it too hard for me to travel very far
Ive had an ear infection (otitis externa) for over a month now, its been causing me so many panic attacks because its just so uncomfortable and the doctors are sending me round and round in circles. I saw a pretty good doctor on christmas eve who said it was improving, took me off the strong drops and gave me some spray to use and gave me another appointment for 2 weeks time, went back to that and it was a different doctor who said I still had some debris in my ear so I should see a specialist and get it microsuctioned. He told me it was the hospital 15mins away which n itself is hard enough, now its turned out to be one nearly an hour away which for me at the moment is physically impossible, and it wont be for another 4 weeks. Im having constant panic attacks thinking about it, my ear was literally barely bothering me anymore before i saw the doctor again, hes prodded around with it so much that its flared back up and the spray is now blocking it up again. Rang the doc yesterday to say I couldnt get to the specialist and got an appointment for monday with the doc I saw at christmas, I asked the secertary to ask her advice and the doc apparently said she wasnt too sure why I was been sent to the specialist because when she saw me it had improved drastically, but to be honest now since I saw the other doctor its feeling awful and im so so scared shes gonna say I have to go to the specialist too because how it is at the moment is worse than when I saw her last. I just dont no how its physically possible for me to get there without causing me majorly bad panic attacks and a relapse M.E wise, we tried to drive there the other night just to see how long it'd take and I only managed 15mins of the journey and had to turn around, im also panicking myself about what they do when they microsuction your ear, how long it takes, if it hurts.
I just really cant stop panicking, so if anyone has any advice? I no if I think about it rationally i'd only really be out of the house about 2 hours or so, but Im basically housebound at the moment, going to the GP is hard enough. Please help, I feel like im losing my mind panicking so much :weep:

Hi April

:welcome:to NMP, glad that you have found us. There is a brilliant book by Dr Claire Weekes called 'Self help for your nerves' published by Thorsons ISBN 978-0-7225-3155-6. This is available from the NMP Shop. I cannot recommend this enough in relation to anxiety and panic, as it really explains what is happening to us, and how we can recover. Her recordings can be downloaded free to your MP3 from the NMP Shop too. There is also another site that I know has been of use to another NMP member with ME www.foggyfriends.org (http://www.foggyfriends.org) . Sorry I can not answer more of your questions, hope this helps.

Veronica
