hi i am new to the site so please bear with me! am off work at the mo with chest pains and palpitations, very frightening, doctor thinks my heart is fine and i am suffering frompanic attacks for some reason. i am booked to see cario chap at hospital in a month, maybe if i get all clear from him i will start to get better? it feels like a vicious circle at the moment. as well as the chest thing i get throat constriction and the classic fight or flight symptoms, especially at night, which is very frightening. does anyone else get bad chest pains?

Your anxiety is the human representation of the pictures that you paint using your many vivid colours of revolving and reoccurring thoughts.

Hi Adele

Welcome to the site!!!!!!

You'll find it really useful for advice and reassurance!!!!

I too suffer with chest pains and flutterings, unfortunately they are part and parcel of the panic and anxiety. Have you tried any breathing techniques or relaxation exercises?? They really help.

Take care

had another full blown panic attack last night for no apparent reason, up till 2am, then when i woke this morning it started again!
have done some housework to see if i can get rid of it, but i cant keep doing that all of the time can I?
it is nice to know that i am not alone - but it is amazing how manypeople have to suffer like this with no apparent need or cure.

Hello Adele,
I remember when I first started to suffer from Panic attacks, I was about 16 and it happened in a shop. I felt like I could not breathe, legs turned to jelly, I started to hyperventilate and go dizzy. I was alone and the first thing I did was to leave the shop and walk to the nearest toilet. Once I left the shop I started to feel better. I then found that every time I went in to a shop on my own I would have a panic attack. So I started to avoid going to the shops, then it started to take over other parts of my life, in the end I did not want to leave the house.
I went to the library and found a book on Panic attacks and after reading it I realised what was wrong and I could see that by avoiding the situations that made me panic I was just making the panic worse. So I started to keep a sort of diary and began gradual exposure therapy. I wasn't cured overnight and I had many setbacks but I did get over my fear of the shops and open spaces. I did think all sorts of things were wrong with me, not being told what was wrong by my then doctor did not help. He told me that I was too young for medication and to learn relaxation. I thought I had all sorts of problems including heart problems. When I first read the book I thought no it can't be panic attacks it must be something else but everyone is different in what they experience in a panic attack. I used to be so tense that I had terrible pain in my legs. I thought I had arthritis. After you see the heart doctor and get the all clear, you can then work on overcoming your panic attacks.
Remember you are not alone.:)
