Hello

I saw the ENT specialist today. He put a camera up my nose and down into my throat! It was really awful :( He said he couldn't see a problem and believes that it is anxiety causing my swallowing problem. I felt a lot better but when I tried eating I only managed soup again!

I am still going for a barium swallow so I think maybe at the
back of mind I still think that something might be wrong and that the doctor couldn't see! He was very nice and just said to 'bite the bullet' and start to eat solid food again - but that is easy said then done!

I am going for my first hypnotherapy appointment tommorow and I am
desperate for it to be successful, has anyone else been helped by hypnosis?

Hi Helen, I havent had hypnosis but am interested.
I had a problem with my throat and put on loads of weight as I was continuously eating and drinking to make sure I could still swallow.I saw an ENT had a scan and then a barium but nothing convinced me there wasent anything wrong, its only since Ive started to get better I have realised and believed it is anxiety, there are so many people suffer with similar symptoms.
Let us know how hypnotherapy goes, good luck love Alexis,xx

Hi Helen,
Sorry to hear the ENT was an awful experience. I havent got that far.. yet :s i know at the back of your mind you think maybe something is wrong but try to remember the positive that the doctor DIDNT find anything wrong and I'm sure if anything was wrong a specialist would be able to see the problem instantly, atferall they are specialists in that subject and would know exactly what they are looking for.
I know what you mean about biting the bullet. when my doctor told me my food sticking in throat stuff was anxiety i really didnt believe her however after a couple of days I did relax slightly and I noticed that occasionally I didnt get that sensation and now I am at the point where I do still get it sometimes but I dont worry about it half as much.
I would be exactly the same and still worry but try to remember the positives about the ENT. If you had anything wrong I'm sure he would have found it and the barium swallow is only to totally confirm there is nothing wrong.
Try to let what the doctor told you sink in slowly, take very small steps in trying to eat more solid things but dont rush it and try to distract yourself as much as possible during eating. In my case it was trying to make sure I had an occasional meal with a trusted friend and while we were chatting away I found i wasnt half as worried. Even if you manage to eat something more solid once and the symptoms arent bad then it will hopefully reinforce to you that it is anxiety. I know its easier said than done because I was and sometimes still am anxious about eating but it can done with time and support :)
hope the hypnotherapy goes ok for you
