View Full Version : New to the forum, but not to a panic disorder
Hi everyone,
I have recently been diagnosed with an anxiety/panic disorder although I have been having mild panic attacks for almost 10 years off and on.
ver the past year I have become severly stressed through various situations and events which have occured. This has lead to my now current panic disorder.
After visiting my GP last week after having 4 panic attacks a day for the last two weeks and severe anxiety from the time i woke up to the time i went to bed I thought it was about time i needed professional help.
My GP put me on a short course of diazepam and has referred me to see a psychiatrist. However, even with taking the diazpam (2mg, 3 times a day) I still feel anxious but slightly calmer and have not had a panic attack for the last three days.
Please could anyone offer advice on how to get past this feeling of anxiety. Its the anxiety that builds up and turns into the panic attacks.
I look forward to hearing from anyone in the same situation.

Your anxiety is the human representation of the pictures that you paint using your many vivid colours of revolving and reoccurring thoughts.

hi Ally,
I'm like you, suffering PA's on and off for years, then it came to a head in feb this year and the anxiety just took over. I also went for a visit to the psychiatrist who gave me a bit of diazepam then gave me prozac. In my personal opinion this was a huge mistake as it made me more anxious.
anyway. my GP put me on another AD better for anxiety and 6 months on and i'm back at work and getting my life back. So it does get better, just take one day at a time and accept that you have it.
everyone here is so supportive, so keep in touch..
take care,
Lisa
