View Full Version : Probably a silly question!

Hi

I went for my barium swallow this morning and the doctor was very nice and said he couldn't see any immediate problem but would analyse the x-rays to see if there is anything wrong.

This is probably a really silly question but do you think that if he couldnt see something straight away that there still might be something wrong or do you think its probably ok because there was nothing obvious?

I'm sure anything bad wouldve been spotted straight away. He was probably just reasurring you that he was being thorough.

Hi Helen,
I agree with Heeby the doctor is being thorough. I'm sure if something was wrong it would be spotted straight away. The doctors are specialists in this field and would immediately know what signs to look for without the use of xrays but he has to be thorough to put your mind at rest. How long will it be before you get your xray results back?

Hiya Helen,

I think you'll find like me that this horrible throat condition is just our anxiety. Mine has been VERY SLOWLY getting better and the symptoms do change now so I know it's me that's creating them. This sadly doesn't make it any easier to cope with but I am coping a bit better now. I've been to see the GP today and I always get worked up about going so I'm now feeling the normal "can barely swallow" choked feeling. I know it will start to ease off later today though and am trying to ignore it the best I can.

Hi Helen

I am sure they would have noticed anything and it is common for them to further check the xrays so try not to worry about it. I think they more so do it for a double check and to clarity their first findings.

Im sure everything will be ok im sure if anything obvious was wrong he would have spotted it straight away,

make sure next time you go and you want to know something, ask twice to make sure you have got it right then you wont come away wondering if he may have meant something else, or you have taken it the wrong way it will save a lot of worrying or maybe write it down as he tells you, im sure they wont mind,

Hi everyone

Thanks for your replies it really helped to reassure me.

I get my x-ray results next week, but I'm flying to India on Tuesday so I will have to ring up to get them. I tried changing my flight for a week later but it would have cost me £400! So I just have to try and see if I can start eating some form of solid foods over the weekend!

Hi Helen,

I'm sure you'll have a GREAT time in India!
One suggestion that some of the others on here gave to me which really helped.... Try doing something that occupies yourself whilst eating to distract yourself from it being a "big deal" and making it difficult for you to swallow. I used to come online or walk around the house with food in my hand and found that it worked!

Best Wishes,

Hi Mark

I try to watch tv but I still think about every mouthful! I think I will try walking around while I eat instead, maybe that will work better! Thanks for your advice
