i have been on 10mg of cipralex for about 15 months , but i have been on antidepressants for about 10 years i have decided enoughs enough i dont want to be on them any more i want to see what life will be like without them , one of the main reason is the extreem tiredness i feel daily , i know that abruptly stopping the meds is not an option as i have withdrawn from seroxat and had a hell of experience , this time i want to do it slowly do you guys think i will get down when the serotine levels in my brain drop even though it will be gradual ?? not sure weather to trust the gp as they dont specialise in mental health .

Hi there
your situation is similar to mine - i have been on meds for about 12 years. was on seroxat for about 6yrs and although i did come off them ok - it took a hell of a long time and i think they changed me as a person. they worked wonders for me at the time but def changed me. since then i have been on citalopram, and cipralex for the last year. I have often wondered what i would be like without any meds as i feel that i coped better before starting any of them but in the last 12 yrs i have tried so many times and the longest i have been off is about 6 months. i was told if you have 1 episode of depression or anxiety you go on meds for 6 months. another episode you go on them for a year and another episode its a long term thing.
I wish i would have never gone on them in the first place but who knows as i might have been like this anyway.

its very difficult, you could wean off really slowly and take supplements of vitamins and magnesium and see how you feel - you can only try. If sleepiness is the only thing you dont like you have to weigh up the pros and cons. I am tired scuse the pun of always being tired too.
lots of love x
