HI Ladies

I dont know if you all know this already but I went to the well woman clinic today for a routine smear and we got talking about breast lumps...

Anyway the nurse said to only check your breasts while you have a period, once a month because this is when your hormone levels are at 0. Any other time during the month is pointless as hormones will make lumps etc appear.

So it sounds like we should be getting to know our breasts better on each period only as then we will be able to tell if any new lumps have appeared on the next period.

I thought I would share this as I certainly didnt know and check mine pretty much everyday which stresses me out because I always find a new one, now at least I know why!

Hi there your right about breast checking, it's important to know your lumps and bumps, however the best time to check them is just after your period as breasts can be very lumpy and bumpy before a period due to hormones.

I got told at the Well Woman Clinicand by a nurse once when I went for a smear check to check for breast lumps 1 week after period ends as that is when breasts are not tender, swollen or lumpy then.

I was told to check on the first day of your period, not because they are less lumpy but because it's a 'good reminder'. I think they are actually lumpier during your period, aren't they?

I thought I finally had it sussed!!

She said not before your period or after but during due to the hormone levels being at their lowest so no influence of hormones, am confused now :scared15:

while it's true you should only check them once a month (because there will be hormone related lumps and bumps throughought the month) - the time to check them is directly after (and up to one week after) the end of your period. this is when they will be at their normal point, and there may still be bumps but they'll be the usual ones. i was told this several times specifically by the doctor who is a specialist at the breast center. the beg of the period there may still be hormone related lumps & bumps ..
