View Full Version : Tongue
Hi
This is probably going to sound bizarre but I seem to be really aware of my tongue! I feel like it is too big but when I look at it in the mirror I can see its not! I was just wondering if anyone else experiences this?
Thanks

Hi Helen,
I used to get this too! It feels like your tongue is about 3 times it's normal size, and that it's going to stop you breathing - don't worry, it won't! I also used to get in a panic because I thought that I would swallow my tongue - again you won't! This does have a name - my GP once told me, but I'll be darned if I can remember what it was! Once I knew that nothing was going to happen, it did make me feel a bit better. These thoughts are all part of our illness, one of many I'm sure! You're not alone - if you want to e-mail me about it, feel free.
Take care

Hi Helen
I used to get this as well and it went in time. Weird feeling isn't it?
Here are some other posts about it ...

I also remember I used to have this horrible sensation of having a 'lump' in my throat (which of course there wasn't!) and would convince myself it was going to make my throat close up! I remember my poor mum taking me to see Phantom of the Opera at the theatre as a birthday treat. Of course, before I even got there I'd manage to get myself worked up, but I didn't want to upset her. I spent the whole time constantly swallowing and trying not to cause a scene[^]
Yes , this is common. Ignore it and it passes.
