And I'm really scared...!

Its about the dry patches in my mouth that I've been getting and i've posted on here a few times about it...still really worried they are gonna say its HIV related :weep:

I just need some reassurance. Its in the Oral health department and I was referred by my dentist because I wasn't happy with his diagnosis which was "nothing to worry about"

Please go to the appointment. Then you will know. Its no good beating yourself up about it, before you find out what it is. I only mean this with kindness and a big hug. Will be thinking of you. Bob

I am gonna go to the appointment, I'm just very scared.

I've been going over my head what they will say and I'm convinced they will say I need to take a blood test or a HIV test :weep: All my fears in one!

I'm, still thinking of you. Just imagine the relief when they tell you it's not HIV related. The only way to find out is to be brave and go. It is easy for me to say, I know you are scared, if I could hold your hand I would. Whatever the outcome they will be able to treat it. If it's HIV the sooner the better. Let me know how it goes. Kind thoughts, Bobo

Do you guys think it will be HIV related then?

I only got this impression through googling...I have never had unprotected sex

No, its very very unlikely to be HIV as its relatively hard to get.

White patches (i.e Oral Thrush) is normally only a symptom of advanced HIV (later stages), when the immune system is severely damaged. And if you suffered from advanced HIV, believe me you would know about it.

There are plenty more explanations for white patches on the mouth.

From the picture that I have already seen, it does not look like oral thrush - but then I'm not a doctor.

Please let us know how you get on.

Dentists are experts in oral health. If he had one suspicion on the dry patches he would have sent you straight to the docs. Ive got dry patches in my mouth but I know for a fact I havent got HIV. Its hard to not listen to a diagnosis but they are the experts, not us. Im sure youll be fine

I went to the appointment...I walked into the room and the dentist/oral expert looked in my mouth and asked me various questions.
He then told me it was nothing to worry about.
I asked him about HIV and he basically told me if I had no risk then I was fine. He then looked and said no signs of cancer or anything.
He asked me do I worry about my health alot?
I'm being abit paranoid but I now think he didnt take me seriously because I answered yes to this.
He said its an illness in itself.
He also asked in relation to HIV "have I ever kissed anyone with HIV?" this man doesnt know what hes on about!!! Please I'm worried now. I know he looked in my mouth and saw nothing but I can still feel it :weep:

Your dentist and the specialist both said 'it's nothing to worry about' so... IT'S NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT! And that is good news hun. :yesyes:

What makes you think you have HIV? Do you have any reason to think you may have contracted it? It is still quite rare in this country you know!

It sounds like the specialist was very thorough so you should trust his judgement. He was right to say that worrying about your health is an illness in itself because it is.

I know you can still feel something. It is probably just a patch of dry or rough skin. The more you think about it and focus on it the worse it will seem. If you are constantly feeling it with your tongue to check it you are probably making it worse.

The specialist does know what he's talking about - he's a specialist and deals with this sort of thing ALL DAY EVERY DAY.

Please try to stop worrying about it. You are fine. :flowers:
