My GP fast tracked an ENT appt for me last week and today i have received a call from the hospital with an appt for tomorrow....this has sent me into a spin!

Can anyone tell me what to expect being it's a 1st appt, will they stick a scope up my nose and/or down my throat....i'm bricking it:ohmy:

Many thanks

I have no idea of what they do. I just wanted to make sure you go to the appointment, and to let you know we are thinking of you. I only have support to offer. Perhaps somebody else may have more details. I'm thinking of you.

Hi Trish,

Not sure what you are seeing the ENT for, but wanted to let you know that I have seen an ENT several times in the last year (GERD, swollen tonsil, sore throat). If they put the scope up your nose and down your throat, I wanted to let you know it's not bad at all! They will spray a numbing agent up your nose and wait a minute for it to take effect. The tube is tiny (as is my nose!), and they do not stay down for long. It does not hurt, and you get immediate feedback on what they see. Hope this helps! Catherine

Hi Trish - thought I answered that one last week! But, they may well do the scope up nose and down throat and it's not painful or that scary - the results are immediate too which is a good thing....

There was obviously a cancellation and the Fast Track thing is because you're a worrier like all of us - not because you have a serious problem! Try not to panic - ENT's are really thorough and should put your mind at rest as they really know what they are looking at etc....

Hi Trish

First of all, thank you for your PM! I'll be thinking of you too, tomorrow.

From the sounds of it, you have nothing to be afraid of, and how lucky to get a quick appointment. I would think something up your schnozz would tickle, rather than hurt! And at least the results are immediate.
Make sure you blow your nose first....

Best of luck,

I am an ENT pro;-)

They will just look in your ears, up your nose, throat etc.. nothing scary at all. If he thinks you have anything like sinusitis etc... he/she might refer you for a CT scan.

You are very lucky getting an appointment so soon on the NHS.

Thank you all for your replies.

I'm just feeling a tad stressed, but hopefully the outcome will be good news.

Bex i think it was in a PM that i sent you when i was told i was having to an ENT specialist:)

It so was Trish - really sorry. Am all over the place at the moment - REALLY good luck for tomorrow, you'll be ok - let us all know how it goes - but really good news it's so soon. Sorry about the mistake... I'm hopeless.
