sore right eye

I have had dry eyes for ever and go through good and bad phases - its being diagnoses as blephritis - allergic conjunctivtis and dry eyes over the years - eye drops for dry eyes do not help and the skin in the corner of my eye not the eye itself goes very red- it improves hugely after a nights sleep but then gets worse and worse as day goes on. It feels as if someone has tipped a shovel full of sand into my eye.
My husband has had a good look in and around my eye with a torch and says nothing in there like an eyelash.
Any ideas anyone.

my painful eyes are kept under control with regular day time viscotears and lacrilub at night tine, when my eyes were really dry - when I was just using the drops I developed corneal ulcers, but this has resolved since using the thicker stuff, anyway only logged in with my chest pain - oh the joys!

Thanks Rosie - my eyes are back to normal now which is itchy and dry but not as painful as the right one was for a few days - I didn't know about lacrilub so will ask about it.
