Hi im a new member. My name is Lara. I have suffered with panic and anxiety for twelve years now and you would have thought I was used to its horibble effects by now! I managed to control the panic for quite a few years but over the past few months it has become really bad again and Im back on the road to "what if its a heart attack/stroke/some undefined illness" etc! I have also developed torticollis (neck turns to one side without control) through excessive anxiety. I am a bit concerned at the minute because following an out of the blue panic attack last week, all week I have been feeling really anxious and like I am spaced out and I can't clear my head. I also have had a tightness in my throat, like a dryness or like two of the rings of cartlidge are stuck together. I really need to share my experiences with somebody else because I feel scared and isolated because of it!

Thanx Piglet. I hope so too. I have read some of the other messages and they do help! I hope I can Help in some way too. I think panic has alot to so with thinking too much but that goes out of the window when an attack strikes! I have a degree in Biomedical science which I dont think helps too much either because every time I panic I think about what I have learned about illness etc! I am really concerned about heart palpitations at the mo. I know they occur because of panic etc but I was out shopping yesterday and yes I was anxious and I had one where instead of getting the feeling of a missed beat and then a strong one, I felt like I had the missed beat then my heart did several flutters which lasted about ten seconds and I felt dizzy and scared I was going to pass out in Tesco. I did my shopping in record time, snapping at my fiancee because he wanted to inspect the cheese range when all I wanted to do was get out of there. I had my hand on my mobile the whole time just waiting to have a heart attack so I could call an ambulance! I also felt really mad at all the "normal" people just shopping because I felt like I did! does anyone else feel like that at times?

Oh gosh yes Lara we all know that feeling. Think we all hate queuing too!

The palpitations are my scarest sypmtom too. There are loads of posts about that very thing on here. I expect if I know Meg she'll handly give you links to them.

Maybe see you in the chatroom sometime.

Love Piglet:)

"Supposing it didn't," said Pooh after careful thought.

Hi Lara

Welcome aboard the forum.

What you are feeling is normal for an anxiety/panic sufferer and it is all about thoughts. These control our everyday things I am afraid to say.

It does get easier in time and you will really benefit from reading all the info on the website and making small changes in your life to help yourself.

There is also a page on the website all about Palpitations so you may want to read that as well.

Good to have you here.

Your anxiety is the human representation of the pictures that you paint using your many vivid colours of revolving and reoccurring thoughts.

Hi Lara,
Welcome to the site.

I also get palps/missed beats and have done for three years. Your comment about being in Tesco's and feeling the missed beat and then the fluttering sensation.....yes I've had that too....and how scary does it feel. I snap at everyone around if I'm having a bad day cus they just petrify you!!

Anyway, take care and you will get loads of reassurance on here.
Love, Linda.x
