Hi all, I keep seeing escitalopram mentioned, what's the difference please?

I've been wondering this myself. Has anyone swicthed to this from Citalopram on here, and what differences did you find?

I read that escitalopram is simply citalopram with non-essential ingredients removed. The side effects are supposedly less noticeable with escitalopram, but it is a newer drug than citalopram, so I imagine that is why doctors don't prescribe it as their first choice.

Also, escitalopram is much more expensive as well...

and the dosage for this is usually half the citalopram dosage because it is (what some say) a "purer" form of citalopram.
