don`t know who to talk to?
I was in the last gulf war and various other actions, and seen an army councilor on my return voluntry. Spoke about certain incidents.
He told me to enjoy my leave and get back in touch if there was any problems. Well im a civy now and still getting bad flash backs and mood swings etc etc.
can anyone point me in the right direction for help? as i don`t think a gp can help with mental problems
My personal life is slipping away and i just cannot cope with the stress, best of all my girl is staring to think i am some sort of mad man and i fear i will lose her.
i am really past caring about myself and a bottle of Vodka and some tablets is starting to become tempting:(

Hi there,

I would recommend seeing your GP as your first point of call, they have mental health training nowadays and know what they're doing and they really are the best people to speak to as they know what services are available in your local area to best help you. Be honest with the doctor, believe me they've seen and heard it all before, you're not alone and hopefully this forum will help you as well as just reading some of the threads will help you to realise there's other people out there feeling the same.

Take care,
Roz

Apart from seeing a general army counsellor what other treatment have you had and what is your lifestyle now? Hav eyou been in contct with any other ex services personnel with similar issues.

i have no real reason to behave like this and I feel like a freak.
The british army in all its glory sent me to a specialist for two weeks and gave me a clean bill of health "Ha" now look at me i have no idea in which direction to turn some hard man i am now..

Hi bionic_man

Welcome to the forum. Sorry that you are feeling so low and are experiencing such a tough time.

It is true that GPs are not specialists at dealing with mental health issues but your doctor could refer you to a therapist who could help.

PTSD can be helped with a technique known as the Rewind Technique (http://www.psychotherapy-center.com/nlp_phobia_trauma_ptsd_treatment.html) and an experienced hypnotherapist/NLP practitioner could treat the PTSD using this method.

Unlike some other forms of treatment for PTSD it doesn't involve going into great detail about the traumatic events, nor is it necessary to tell the therapist in detail what happened either.

The idea is that the Rewind Technique enables the memories to be moved from one area of the brain, which is linked to emotion, into long term memory. So although the memories will still be there, the strong emotions and anxiety are removed. The events then become like other unpleasant memories rather than causing the distress of flashbacks, anxiety etc.

Seeing a therapist could also help you with the low mood you are currently experiencing.
