Hi,

I'm here because I've had a problem with anxiety and panic for as long as I can remember.
For seven years, I channelled my anxieties into bulimia and self-harm, but have been in recovery for the past two and a half years. Recently, things have been becoming more difficult to cope with. My boyfriend is currently unemployed and we are short of money. At the weekend, I had my first panic attack in years.

I'd really appreciate somone to talk to that understands what its like to feel like you're just not coping.

Hello

It isn't surprising that at this stressful time you are experiencing some additional anxiety symptoms.

If you have never had personal help for this maybe it is time to ask your GP to refer you for some help at this time.

Hi Miss Jones

A big welcome to the site.

As Meg suggested, maybe a visit and chat with your GP might help. I have been backwards and forwards to my gp in recent months and he has been incredibly supportive, helpful and understanding. It has helped me being able to discuss things with him, as well as a very supportive family and friends!

Take great care of yourself,

Hi girls,

I had some help from a counsellor in the past when I was really suffering with an eating disorder at university and that did help me a lot, and still does.

I had a bad experience then with my GP, who threatened that if I didn't seek help and join a self-help group or see a counsellor then she would call them for me. I feel really angry now about her attitude.

My current GP, I don't think would be a massive help either. I know that I don't want to take medication, and I doubt that I am having a hard enough time to warrant a referral to a PCT Psychologist or CMHT.

I think that I would like to try and sort through my problems myself while I feel able to stay in control. I think I will see how things go.

Hi there. Get your hands on this book HOPE AND HELP FOR YOUR NERVES By Dr. Claire Weekes (you can get it via internet too and follow it and believe in it 100%. Stay away from sugar, white flour, and caffeine and alcohol. This helps alot. Learn how to deep breath to calm your body down. You can feel normal again. I promise. It's funny that when we feel so crappy for along time is when we learn so much and become better people. Good luck to you.

Hi Miss Jones,

Welcome to the site.

Yes, the Claire Weeks books are very good and I got mine in Waterstones, but many good bookshops sell it as it is so popular.

Go to your new GP and ask to be referred to a specialist - people who deal with the likes of us are usually more understanding.

Its important for you to get talking and vent - we have our own chatroom here, and people like No Panic have helplines manned by people who have gone through the same things as you. 0808 808 0545.
