Hi,
i have had a tension headache since this afternoon which is making me anxious now.
Can anyone describe to me how theirs feel and especially if you occassionally get like a sudden pain on the side of your head from them, it feels like a muscle spasm and is only painful for about a second or so. I rarely get this but it still worries me.
I hate headaches, like most people, and always think its something worse. My mum died from a brain tumour, so i get totally paranoid about them!
thanx, kt x

I sometimes get really bad stabbing pains in the side of my head and they are so bad that I actually grimace and say "ouch" (or a similar word lol) out loud!

I once had a headache for about a week so got some strong pain killers from the chemist that did help.

Not sure that helps but they do go away in time.

I can understand your concerns though because of your mum but I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Try a getting an Indian head massage or really relaxing and rubbing your temples in wide circles.

The classic anxiety headache is called a headband ache but it is fairly individual.

Dan & Meg, thankyou too!! I had a Hopi Ear candle treatment at weekend and although this was really relaxing, i think my neck and shoulder muscles are fighting it, they are not used to being relaxed and feel like they want to shrink back up to my ears again!!

i get really bad tension headaches every night and have only just now got over the frightening thought that it could be a brain tumor but still fed up with getting them any ideas on how to stop them or ease them in any kind of way?also does anybody think the fact that i smoke cannabis could be a factor?

Hi Theresa,
I try and make sure that my shoulders are down rather than up round my ears! Also try and do some gentle neck stretching exercises. I still get them but not as much as i used to. I find that mine make me quite dizzy and was told that this is because when you are tense even your inner ear muscles get tense- makes sense really!
I'm not sure if cannabis makes it worse or not, sorry.
I take "syndol" when my headaches are at their worst, and find that this is more effective than paracetamol.
I hope yours ease soon,
take care, hugs, kt
