Hi everyone, my name is Annalise and im new on this site. Ive suffered it seems forever from this horrible thing and it really seems to be ruling my life more and more, get so frustrated and down, cos i really do try and help myself. I try really hard to explain it to people, the health problems i feel etc, but they look at me like im mad! so hard to explain if you dont have it yourself. I get panic attacks which started this whole thing off, cos i was worryied i was going to die, then it got a grasp of me many years ago, and after my mom died of cancer quite young it got chronic, since then its gone bad to worse, some days, i just feel so overwhelmed and hopeless. Would love to hear from anyone, and what they find helps for them. Success stories are always enchoraging. Take care all, and a big hi from New Zealand!!

Hi Annalise

Welcome to the forum. It is often difficult for people who have not experienced anxiety and panic, or other mental health issues, to understand what it is like and many people find others making insensitive and unhelpful comments. That is one reason sites like this are so good at bringing people together who can support and help each other through.

Have you had any treatment so far, like therapy for instance?

Take a look at the information on First Steps (http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/default.asp?t=cms&c=firststeps) and Health Anxiety (http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/default.asp?t=cms&c=healthanxiety) in these links.

There are many inspiring stories in the Successes section and you might like to read some of these.

Hi Annelise.
Firstly welcome to the forum, you will get a lot of great advice and make some very good friends here.
I too suffered terribly with health anxiety, thinking the smallest thing was something major, setting me off into a panic. I did a CBT course recommended by my doctor, and it turned me around, it is all to do with re-training your mind into a new way of thinking. Pm me if you need me to answer any questions or mail me on tatkinson@hotmail.co.uk, and I will try to help in any way I can.
Take care

Your anxiety is the human representation of the pictures that you paint using your many vivid colours of revolving and reoccurring thoughts.

hi Annalise first off what a lovely name. I too am new here mainly go on whilst i am working as it helps me to realise when im feeling low there are others out there who although i cant see are with me in thought.
This site is great in realising you are never alone and you can always talk to people who understand your problems because they are suffers too. I myself suffer from general and social anxiety but am determined to overcome it with medication, councilling and this site.

Hi Annalise
I too suffer from intense health anxiety,so much so,that i dont ever let myself think of the most positive outcome of a situation in case i am tempting fate!!
My anxiety also became chronic when my mum died young of cancer, although i didnt directly link it to her death at the time.
You are right,it is a very hard thing to explain to people, they genuinely dont understand.
Thats why forums like this are so good, because noone will ever think you are mad!!
I have been referred for Cbt also.Have you had any help or treatment?
