Hi I have been on citalopram about 7 months now and I am feeling almost 100% percent most days. I am back to work after having nearly 5 months off wth severe anxiety which then developed in to OCD. As I said though I dont really have any bad days anymore and can control my obbsesive thoughts since having CBT. The problem I have though is that me & my husband are desperatley trying for a baby with no success after 3 yrs we need to see a specialist. my doctor has said that he will not refer me though until I come off the meds, and has said that if i feel fine then I can start reducing the dose now. I am really scared of reducing my dose as I am terrified of feeling like I did before, can anyone help with this?

It seems a bit catch 22 there. On one hand you want a baby but that means you'll need to come off the meds to get to see a specalist, but on the other hand you aren't sure about reducing the meds.

Only you will know when you're ready to come off the meds, and if you are in control and are having rare bad days, maybe it is time just for a trial reducing meds, just to see how you feel, then if you can't deal with it, you can easily go back to normal dose.

Yes I think you are right Welshbaz I am going to be brave and give it ago to reduce the dose, because like you said I can always go back on them if need be. Thanks x

If you reduce very slowly it will be easier for you and the body will gradually get used to a little less each time .Hopefully by the last reduction you wont feel any different than you do now .Good luck with everything .Sue x:hugs:

I have been on mine for 10days and am not enjoying the way its making me feel ,i feel worse than i did before i was on them , i have beaten anxiety before and i am going to stop taking the tablets and do my breathing exercises and think and be positive , im only on 10mg so that is a small dose so I should be ok to just come off them . I am going on holiday on monday and dont want to be feeling in this anxious state .

I came off of them pretty much cold turkey, when a pescription ran out, and I really would not recommend it that way as some of the withdrawal syptoms were awful.

If you feel like you can then talk to your GP. I know that is just common sense, but you truely have the best reason in the world to do it.xx:)

Citalopram raised my prolactin thats why I had to stop. Have you had your hormones checked. This can stop you ovulating. Coming off a nightmare though so be careful!!
