For the last three years I have been able to hear my pulse in my ear. Loud and clear. I got checked out by my doctor and an ent that said that I would have to just live with it.

This year it has been really bad. I can hear my heart and hear sounds and hear it beating and then THUDING and other sounds. I have read about Pulsative Tinnitus on the internet and there about five main reasons for it.

One is ear trouble which im hoping mine is but the other four is anything from twisted blood vessels in the ears to annurism to many other things that are very dangerous. I have read on the internet about so many people have this.,

I see post where people have had it all their lives and other people just a few months and everything inbetween. I had it checked three years ago and none of the doctors thought anything about it.

I have to go to the doctor on Weds. and im terrified . I can't get my mind off of it. I only needed to go for refill of meds but im afraid they will find something else wrong with my heart.

I have been busy the last few years and kind of learned to live with it but its been especially bad this year with allergies and such.

For the last few months I have cut down on my exercise because of it.
But for three years I have worked hard in our property and lifted and did things that would have really strained the heart and it didn't seem to bother me other than getting tired.

We went out for awhile today which I haven't done in a few days and when I came back I started hearing it in my ears so bad. Im so scared there is something else wrong and don't know what to do . Im just plain afraid. I have just a couple of days before I go to the doctor and hope that I don't stay in panic the whole time. Really the only reason im suppose to go the doctor is for meds refill but I do dread it

Hey man,

I really understand what you're going through. I know I've talked to you before about this. Hearing your pulse isn't real common, and I know that scares you, I've been there and still hear mine and i'ts been 15 years since I first started hearing it. When I first went to the doctor he said he wanted to do a MRI to rule out an aneurysm. I had to wait two days before I could have one. I really believe that was what started all my anxiety.

Since you've had this checked out over 3 years ago, I really believe you are fine. I'm sure it's hard to live with everyday, but if it was something serious they would have found it by now. If you are having allergies, that will really affect your ears. Since you are going to the doctor anyway, tell him about it again and have him look in your ears. Also, tell him you are worried about your heart.

It sounds like you do quite a bit of activity, and that your heart is okay. Don't stop exercising. Talk to your doctor about it so he can reassure you.

If you are worried about blood vessels, ask the doctor for a MRI. Then you won't have to worry about that anymore. I have had many of them.

I really understand your fears. I have spent YEARS trying to find answers to why I hear my pulse and I guess I never will for sure. If you are hearing your heart make "thuds" at times, it is probably because you are having pvc's (extra beats) and you KNOW that so many anxiety sufferers have those.

This probably doesn't help you much. Please know that I "feel" for you. Ask you doctor about it again and then try not to worry. Don't let it rob you of enjoying your life and your retirement. I wish I lived in the mountains.

Hugs,

Ro

Thanks so much. I appreciate it and probably am over reacting. I just get so nervous going to the doctors and you can be sure I will ask her everything and anything. I have to go tomorrow but I always get scared that they will find something bad. All Im suppose to go for is just med refills but it still bothers me. I haven't been in awhile..so you can understand. Thanks again for your support and making me feel better.

Hello. Just thought I'd add my 2pence worth!

I've had pulsatile tinnitus for 4 years. I paid for a private MRI just because I was too scared to wait for one on the NHS. It came back clear. I saw a specialist who said it was 'one of those things', or possibly a thickening of the bone in my ear that may mean I need a hearing aid when I'm old (I'm 32 now). That's a much better scenario than what I imagined. If Ro44 has had it for 15 years, you've got to figure it's not a terminal problem! (No offence meant Ro.)

One thing I have noticed is that when I am relaxed and happy or distracted, I don't notice the noise (even though it's still there). However, when I feel run down or anxious, the noise becomes far more apparent.

Finally, as for the exercise... I took up netball 2 years ago and was initially worried that it would aggravate the tinnitus, but I have not once noticed it having any effect on the level of noise I hear (I now play competitively twice a week). One thing that often does make the noise pound more is when I put my head upside down.

Please try not to worry about it because I genuinely believe you can tune it out if you learn to believe it's harmless. :)

I have just found out today that I don't have Pulsative Tinnitus. I have something called Tormentis . Thats all I could get from my doctor. Apparently since my last visit with her she has found out exactly what I have.

How nice since she never has given me an update until today

She said when you get older the veins in your neck become entangled and branch off and kind of cork screw so what im hearing is behind the head and neck and not in the ear. She said many people have it especially older people. She said it is benign., annoying sometimes but benign
