hi all
i read this in the no panic news letter and i thought it would be nice to share with everyone ( i hope thats ok )
"A 92 yr old petite well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed each morning by 8 o clock, with his hair fashionably coifed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home.

His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the home, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready.
As he manoeuvred his walker to the lift, the carer provided a visual description of the room.
" I love it " he stated with the enthusiasm of a 8yr old who has been given a new puppy.
Mr j you havent seen the room; just wait
That doesnt have anything to do with it he replied. happiness is something you decide ahead of time. whether i like my room or not doesnt depend on the furniture its how i arrange my mind. I already decided to love it Its a decision i make every morning when i wake up. i have a choice: i can spend the day recounting the difficulty i have with parts of my body that no longer work, or i can get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.
Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open i'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories i've stored away, just for this time in my life.
Old age is like a bank account you withdraw what you put in. so, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories!. thank you for your part in filling my memory bank im still depositing.
Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1 Free yor heart from hatred
2 Free your mind from worries
3 Live simply
4 Give more
5 Expect less.
i found this touching and inspiring
hope some others do to
sorry if it wasnt your thing ibut i found myself thinking of this old man all day and trying to remember Happiness is my choice
take care all

It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere.

THAT IS A LOVELY STORY.

I find when I am working (only 4-5 hours a week) with the elderly and one disabled gentleman who is my age "37", that It really makes me realise how trivial my problems really are in the scale of things.

Ok I may find it difficult going out and socialising but if I really really find the will power I CAN DO IT no matter how horrible and difficult it is.

The gentlman I visit weekly who is in a wheelchair (for the past 3 years)is getting worse and will end up not being able to move at all in the next coming years. His smiles and bravery make me feel ashamed of myself - I know many of you will say to me "but you cant help it"
but if you went to visit this Guy you would feel exactly the same.
ITS HIS POSITIVE OUTLOOK THAT AMAZES ME WHEN HIS FUTURE IS SO DIM, JUST LIKE THE OLD MAN STORY.[8)]
