I saw a counselor for the first time this week. She drew a picture of the human brain and labeled all the major parts. Her explanation fit my condition to a 'T'. basically my Fear & Flight program is stuck on, like it's in an infinite loop. When it is stuck on like that, it shuts everything else down.

The key is to trick it or retrain it to turn off or exit out of the loop.

So far I have learned square breathing, Cook's Latch (sp?), and guided imagery. These are helping. I can tell when my anxiety is causing problems (even when I'm not feeling anxious) because my rate will go up into the 90s and stay there until i do something about it.

I cannot wait until next week's session as I have been promised more tricks to spank the Fear & Flight program, and my counselor is sure we can beat it in short order.

She also said a high quality chelated Calcium/Potassium/Mganesium supplement was very important.

Dear Clemmons

It sounds like you had a really positive session with a very well trained person! Am intrigued to know what square breathing is? I know when I gave birth I learnt some very useful breathing techniques which helped me alot, I cant remember them now though. I am glad you are looking forward to your next session,

Clare

I agree with calcium/Mag but I would go very cautiously and ask twice on the potassium supplements especially after cardiac issues .

Hi Clemmons

It's great that you had a positive first session, all the best of luck with the following ones.
Calcium and magnesium will definitely help too.

Hi there:D

I was really interested in your message as I have a real hard time with Fear/Flight. It would be great if you could continue to let us know how you get on with your sessions with helpful hints. I will certainly try the square breathing!!

the square breathing sounds good, and also easy to remember. thanks for posting about how to do it Meg.

BTW - Glenn - I am sorry that I got your name wrong, I realise now that it is Glen not Clemmons!

Thanks Meg. I actually did go with a Cal-Mag because I had read that the Altace I'm on elevates Potassium levels in the blood. Thanks again though for pointing that out.
