hi all i was wondering if anone else gets a fluttery missed beat feeling in thier chest when they suddenly lie down. last night i lied down and it kept missing beats so in the end sat up most of the night. with it it also feels like pressure building inside my chest its horrible. and it does this for a few nights every few months.

:D Hi Leslie,

I know exactly what you mean - I frequently get the same sensation when I lie down and also when I turn on to my side when I'm already lying down. It can be quite scary but since I've had it for many years without anything happening I guess its not serious.

Its so easy to then focus on your heartbeat and the more concious of it you become the worse you feel. I try to ignore it now and although thats not always easy it does go away. If you get really stressed by it try and distract yourself to take your mind off your heartrate.

I'm sure there are lots of people on this site who have experienced similar sensations to you so you are not alone.

Take care
Tulip :D:D

Hi Leslie

I too get the symtoms you have described. Up until quite recently I only used to get them occasionally at night so wasn't too worried about them. I now get them during the day time and they can last nearly all day.

I went to see my GP and he referred me to the specialist at the hospital. I had my appointment at the hospital this morning and luckily the fluttering feeling happened while I had the ECG (had one at the docs but it didn't do it then!!). The specialist said everything was absolutely fine and that a lot of people have this but don't notice it. He said the best treatment was to realise that it is completely harmless. I was so relieved as it has been really bad for the last two weeks. The funny thing is, I didn't notice it happen at all this afternoon!!! It just shows how worrying about these sorts of things can make them worse.

Hope this helps to reassure you.

Love Sarah xx

Hi Leslie. Just to let you know you are not alone in this. They can be very scary but the truth is its all pary of the anxiety circle. I had then constantly for months but they eventually get less frequent and eventually go but i found the trick is not to focus on them and tense up as that prolongs it. I found that refocusing on your breathing , ie throgh your stomach with slow deep breaths helps. I also found that while lying down and putting my legs up higher than the rest of my body should do the trick in a few minutes. I read this somewhere i use it if the palpitations get the better of me. I hope this helps you abit and all the best, Chrisx.
