I am having a real bad time at the moment and see no way out. I feel my adrenalin constantly rushing for the past week with no let up, I feel constantly shakey inside and eratic in everything i do and my hearts pounding away. I was given PROZAC but had to come off them it just hightened me more, then i was given DIAZIPAN they took the edge off slightly, but not enough so DOC gave me ZISPIN(MIRTAZIPINE) today. do any of you know what they do or side effects?? I am so scared of taking tablets because I also have Health Anxiety. I was told that it could take 12 - 18 months to see a clinical psycologist??? Anyone have any ideas of what help i could do in the meantime? I realy feel like hurting myself to take away the thoughts in my head and concentrate on another pain.
Please help I realy need it at the moment[V]

Hi Soggypops,

just a post to let you know that there can be light at the end of the tunnel. I was in a constant anxiety state around about this time last year. I would say that for the past month I have been back to normal.

Only things I can tell you is what I did.
1) Doc gave me beta blockers. I wasn't happy about taking them but they did calm me down enough to see the wood fom the trees.
2) Improved diet and cut out caffeine completely.
3) Information is key. Once you can understand the process of what is happening it helps. This site is great. Claire Weekes books helped me massively, as did her audio tape. Meg on here also does a CD course which will really help you.
4) Get out and walk! However bad the weather and however bad you feel, just go. Increase the time over the weeeks.
5) Good multivitamins. Especially B group. Omega 3. Vit C.
6) I had acupuncture which was good for me.
7) TRY and relax. Yoga, calming music.
8) I avoided TV and got into reading lighthearted books.
9) Socialise. Although you feel like **** try and see some close friends.
10) I took up something I'd always wanted to do which was play the guitar. Good distraction.
11) Got to accept the weirdness and pains and try and just let it pass by.
12) Accept it won't change overnight. It may take time. Don't count how long just try and do normal things as much as you can even though you may feel wired and not able to concentrate on what the hell is going on!!!

This is a very brief list of most of the stuff I used on my path out. Obviously it skims and misses alot out (don't want to bore you!) but it covers basically 9 months of some very deep lows but I just wanted to let you know you can come out. One of the main things that I wanted to know when I was suffering was that people did come out OK. I spoke to many people who did along the way.

Good luck
Trev :D

I know exactly how you feel with regards to taking tablets.
I started having my panic attacks last week after a panic free 8 years and had to ask my doctor for help. He gave me Citalopram which is an anti-depressant and although it can help you feel worse when you start taking it until your body gets used to it.
Keep taking what the doctor prescribes for you even if you are worried about the side effects as it will help you even if you dont feel like it will at the moment.
I saw a psycologist a while ago who really helped me. Your doctor should be able to refer you to one at your surgery.

Take Care

Hi, sorry you are feeling so rotten, I went through similar about a year ago, you will feel better once the tablets kick in (but I felt worse first too.)

I've never wanted to self harm (I just wanted to run away!) but I've heard two tips, one to have a bead bracelet (you know like the cheapy ones the kids have on elastic) and every time you get these thoughts just 'ping' the bracelet until it goes, and two, put a pile of ice cubes in your hands when it gets bad...hope this helps. I felt that a bit of fresh air did me really well during this time, to start with just getting up and standing at the back door, then walking to the post box a few days later when I felt better...

Good luck but believe me you'll start feeling better soon...

Trev's advice is excellent. I've had terrible anxiety for three years and only recently have I begun to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I think basically, the worst part of the illness is the compulsion either to harm yourself and others or to run away (the fight or flight response), which is caused by a huge rush of adrenaline in your system- this can also give you headaches, make you feel unreal, cause palpitations.....beta blockers did help me because when you have anxious thoughts they prevent your body following through (clammy palms, shallow breathing...) and so you calm down much more quickly. Trev's right too about getting plenty of exercise- it will help you to burn off the adrenaline and produce feel-good endorphins. And something using the right-side of your brain (learning a new skill, having a conversation, drawing up a plan) is a helpful distraction.
The two main bits of advice that I would give you are: not to avoid doing things, because your comfort zone becomes smaller and smaller and more and more things become frightening. Feel the Fear and do it Anyway! And to just remember that nobody feels like this forever. What are the statistics? One in four people suffer from some form of mental illness at some point? I know how horrible it feels, but once you realise that the panic attacks are just too much adrenaline, that they are not dangerous, that you are not going mad then it becomes so much easier to deal with and you can ride them through, knowing that they will be over very shortly.

Zispin is an anti-depressant. It does seem to be one of the AD that helps with sleep. Yes it "can" have side effects as can all medication, but that doesn't mean you will experience them.

Get out and walk, no matter how awful you feel you must get out. Isolation is the biggest problem when your depressed and anxious, so breaking that isolation is important.

Use your library, go for a daily paper at your local shop, get a dog (if you like dogs and will love him) because you have to take them a walk, and caring for them helps us by making us less self obsessed.

hi, im on cipromil and also have been given zispin in the last few weeks because i can never sleep the whole night through, they did help me sleep but gave me very vivid dreams, i stopped taking them and my sleepness nighsts are back, i think i have always been looking for the quick fix but realise i have to walk the long road as the short cuts only lead to further depression. good luck and health, we can all beat this.x

Hi hun

I tried zispin and for a while it did help me but it was at my worst time. I remember it helped me sleep but any medication given at that time i fought it not to work. Its a good med see how you go on it and i can appreciate how prozac didnt help you as it made me worse.

Here if you want to talk.

Love Sal xx

Hi.

I'm new but thoguht I would reply to this as I have just restrted taking Zispin.

I have noticed some side effects. The most worrying one being that they can make you more depressed.

If you are worried about the side effects talk to your doctor and see what they suggest. ( will one day take my own advice.)
