Hi ive been given citalopram 10mg from my gp for my anxiety. Now ive searched the net and noticed these carry lots of undesired side effects which sound like they would make me worse not better. Id have preffered counselling if offered but my gp didnt even ask me anything just "here take these come back 4 weeks". Ive seen several other gps and they said i had low blood pressure, stress and whatever else. No medication was given then. My symtoms are shortness of breath(i have asthma),heart palpitation, nervous toilet visits, i feel like i have the shakes but if i ask someone to feel me im not shaking, bad sleeping patterns, and allways bloody miserable and i seriously think a scratch will turn into an amputation.
So if anyone has any advice on whether or not i should take the tablets or try seek councelling 1st.
If i take the tablets does anyone know if there any good
many thanx in advance.

Hi

Your symptoms certainly sound like anxiety, i am on meds and only had very mild side effects for a few days i am also currently having CBT i would advise the councelling first but you need to do what is right for you

I think medication along with councelling/CBT is very effective. Meds on their own is just a temporary fix. 10mg is very low dose - l was on 20 then 40mg and didn't have any unbearable side effects - just a bit spaced out for a while, but it past after a few weeks.... It didn't really help me but it has helped many others.
