as a mum our kids are our world and now my 19 year old is quite ill. He has been passing blood and mucus and sometimes just blood and i mean it can half fill a yogurt pot so im worried sick. Took him to docs monday they ordered bllod tests and stool test but it got worse today and he had to see a lady doc that did an internal said she coulnt find anything and could we wait 20 minutes as she wanted to see another doc. In this time my son got so scared has he has a phobia of hospitals and thought they were going to send him in so he did a runner. I spoke to the other doc who called him in for second opinion and explained. His aunty had colitis when she was 20 and nearly died and they think its that or crons. He has to go back on friday as they are rushing the results but i dont know what to do to reassure him i dont want to lie to him but i dont want to scare him what do i do. I cant bear seeing him so ill and scared

:bighug1:I think you are doing the right thing by making sure that he sees this through and gets this diagnosed and sorted. It is hard for a young man to have to have such intimate examinations so no wonder his anxiety is high. My brother in law has Crohns and was diagnosed a few years ago. He takes daily medication but is in other ways doing very well. Let us know how he gets on and look after yourself too.

Hi Den
I'm sorry, this must be a very worrying time for you both but you will see it through together. It has to be sorted. Best wishes.

I'm so sorry to hear your son is unwell... agreed, nothing worse than one of your kids being sick. My son has a heart condition so I feel your pain. I hope this is reassuring but my partner had severe ulcerative colitis when he was in his 20s (in his late 30s now). He was ill for a while (bleeding, pain etc) before having a bowel operation to remove part of his bowel. The operation was a great success and apart from taking some medication he leads a completely normal life and can do everything that a normal person can do. I'm sure your son will be just fine and if it does turn out to be ulterative colitis please feel free to mail me if you think it would be helpful to put him in touch with my partner who will be able to give him a positive outcome story. Hugs.. Mand

i had a colonoscopy when i was 21, it's not that bad, i would advise sedation for a colonoscopy tho, it's not really painful just uncomfortable, i was glad to have mine done and found out i had ibs, and that was all.

I hope he gets better soon - Gaz

another update. He has had the camera test and it is ulcerative colitis but its a very severe case. The consultant started him on a massive dose of steriods 8 taken at a time every day and said we should see a difference by the weekend. Yesterday he seemed a bit better but today hes back to square one in pain loosing loads of blood if hes no better by monday they will have to admit him and maybe remove his colon. Its awful waiting to see whats going to happen its breaking my heart
