Hey all, I am getting abit freaked out. for 3 months i have had a cyst behind my ear. and just above the top of my ear there is a swollen lymph node. I also have one a few cm to the right of my cyst just on the back of my neck and one just on the boney part of the back of my head/neck.

They all seem to be in the same general area.

I also have this ringing buzzing in my ear.

I have been to the docs alot with alot of symtoms/ pains and aches.

they said its nothing to worry about

I have had alot of blood tests. i have just been tested for glandular fever which came back clear and i was just tested today for inflamtion and lyme disease and should hear about that in a week.

These things dont seem to be going away and im getting abit freaked.

is it possible the nodes are there because of the cyst on my ear? also could they be there because of a sinus issue? I get pressure in my nose/ face when i lean forward. I was given nasal spray and congestion tablets last month but i dont thing they have done much good.

I have had this pressure in my face/nose for atleast 2 years but never paid it much notice.

Is it possible to have a sinus infection for so long and not take notice of it? I was prone to cold sores and i have had cysts on my ear before but never for this long.

Any ideas folks?

Thanks

Hi there, I wish I could answer u about your symptoms but I honestly dont have a clue. The thing I did want to ask was about the lyme disease as I think I may have symptoms - big circular rash, fever, chills, malaise etc etc. I was wondering what symptoms you had that the doc wanted tot est for lymes? Doc a couple weeks said he thought the rash might be a fungal thing, but I dont think it is.......just the fact there are all these other symptoms .

Sorry I couldnt be of help to you though..

lyme disease is incredibly rare in the UK, last year i believe there was only around a thousand people diagnosed with it in the whole of the country.

I am also interested why your doc wanted you to be tested for this?

Is it because of a rash, twitches etc?

Yeah Im hoping its not lyme because of its rarity, just the fact I was out among tall gasses and hedges 2 weeks b4 this rash appeared.

The reason I got tested wasnt because of the circular rash i mentioned. I got tested because I had some small pin prick red dots appear over my legs and had felt unwell for two weeks,- mild fever and chills, stiffness and feeling out of it etc - so he tested blood count, liver function and thyroid. all of which are fine.
I just thought it was too much of a coincidence that I had this circular rash, feeling unwell and the dots all at once because Im never ill. The doc originally thought it was ringworm but it can be mistaken for lymes which would explain my symptoms.
Have to go back to discuss my results and so on, so I will mention my concerns about lyme to him then. worried hes gonna think Im trying to do his job by going in and telling him I think I know whats up.....but to be fair I havent been to the doctors b4 this in like 5 years so hopefully he wont think Im a total hypochondriac. I think you know when somethings not right.

What symtoms led the doc to test u for lyme?

Just a wee update. Ive been put on medication for lyme disease........thats what I get for trying to be healthy and go hiking....
Waiting on results for it but the doc said its a very strong possibility because of my symptoms and type of rash and the fact and was up in the hills round scotland. Waiting on results but he wanted to get me on meds straight away. will update if they come back positive in about a week.

Take care

sorry to hear that, did they have to send your bloods off to a specialist to test for lyme? As i've been told the normal lyme disease test is awful and doesn't pick it up 9 x out of 10.

Good luck with the medication :yesyes:

I would put money on it that the lymph nodes are because of the cyst. My sons got 3 lymph nodes swollen, about the size of petit pois! And the doc said his were most probably because of his acne. He's had them years now, & they show no sign of going!

Hi

I've had alot of experience with swollen lymph nodes in the past. I have 2 swollen ones and have had them since a child. One in my neck because of Mumps and one under my arm. Lymph nodes are extremely sensitive and can enlarge when fighting off even the smallest of infections. I would also bet money that your node is enlarged due to the cyst.

Ps my 4 yr old son also has enlarged lymph nodes on his neck because he had surgery on his head that led to infection and lots of ear infections, they are very visable but arecmpletely harmless (had them checked as we sorry I was worried!)

Hope your feeling a little better

Love

Hey, yeah they had to send away blood specifically for lyme. The doc said the test isnt fulproof, but I think the results are more likely to show up if youve had it a few weeks, I think its just over a month that i would have had it if it is that. After reading up on it the test i think isnt as bad as 9 of 10, but not much better.there are actually a couple tests involved in the diagnosis. I think the forst one is the one that can fail, but the second is more reliable? Im not sure tho could be wrong. But Im hoping he'll just keep me on them to make sure. My doc is very nice and listens well thankfully and there is a infectious disease expert at the practice who he talked to and she seems to think all the symptoms are there. Still cant believe I got diagnosed with dry skin and then ringworm. grrrr. It was never itchy and had a dot in the middle which ringworm doesnt have. But anyhoo's I suppose lyme aint exactly common....if it even is that.

Thanks for the good luck :)
