I'm sorry to start another thread but here goes:

I think that, along with my girlfriend and Mum, we have reached the conclusion that I have had some kind of mental breakdown and can't continue like this. I need help to get over it, medication, counselling or whatever will help me. Thing is when I go to the doctors I feel uncomfortable and nervous explaining everything and often more emotionally stable at the time. I've never had to go through this before and have always wanted to avoid meds and asking for more help. I am sure something needs to change and try to stop this cycle of health anxiety.

I know there are people on here like me who have more experience at dealing with things, I appreciate All of your wisdom and advice you can offer greatly.

I can't give advice but i feel i could of wrote what you wrote here. All day everyday i am worrying about my health or at least thinking about it in some way, i'm so unhappy about it, i don't know what to do either as when i go to the doctors i feel better mentally while i am there.

Just thought i'd drop u a line to say your not alone :)

I'm going to the docs tomorrow if i can get in and i'm gonna tell them all i can and ask for help asap.

Anxiety is not a mental breakdown although it feels like it. Anxiety is just you being hyper sensitive about how you feel - every little ache and pain assumes massive importance - we've all been there.

I had a really rough time a couple of months ago. I felt completely vunerable to everything. I felt like I couldn't function properly. What helps me is to know that it will pass - we forget that we don't feel like this 24 hours a day - there are sometimes, I'm sure when you feel ok. When you are panicking - just think - this will pass, I've had it before, I'll have it again but it doesn't last forever. Also, seeking constant reassurance is not good. It makes you feel weak and vulnerable because you are gaining your strengh from someone else. Acually, it's not strengh you are gaining but more weakness because you feel that without that other person you could not survive.

I hope you feel better soon. x

PS - you say 'where to get help' - get it from within yourself - you're the only one who can help yourself. Know that you are strong because you are or you would crumble under the weight of your anxiety. People who have anxiety are stronger than anyone who has never felt it. x

Anxiety in it's self is not a mental break down but it can get so bad you start to feel depressed ans so forth, nit trying ti scare you because I'm also going to the do 2moz as i've reached that stage where i no if i don't get help i will have a mental break down from this anxiety :(

Just don't no what to say to the doc, last time when my anxiety was not so bad the doc told me "just deal with it and it will go away" id didn't think she new how serious it was.

Anyway I'm seeing my old doc 2moz and he has known me for a ages and should understand.

Hello,

You have to first accept that the horrible feelings you have are caused by anxiety and continue because of your fear of them. Once you accept them for what they are then you can stop being afraid of them. When you stop being afraid of them they gradually subside. Your doctor can help as well if you feel so low that you need some help in the short term. Don't be afraid to tell your doctor exactly how you feel and don't feel bad about taking meds if you have to for a short while. You won't always feel like this. With acceptance and letting time pass you will be on the road to recovery again. That book sounds good that has been recommended as well!
Take care
Myra:)

I would like to thank everyone for their kind and thoughtful replies. I know this is something I need to get over myself and their have been occasions in the past when I have managed to. I just want to stop the cycle of health anxiety which keeps happening.

I don't feel that I can deal with it currently as I am waiting to see a specialist for the first time and can't imagine any other scenario than the worst as my symptoms are so overwhelming. I have a copy of the book a few people suggested now and hopefully this will help but I feel so overwhelmed by what I am currently experiencing that I can't grasp the idea of this being solved yet. In the past things have always been shorter with respect to how long I have gone on worrying for. I really appreciate the advice though and would be particularly interested in any ways other people have improved things. Thank you all.

Mark, you are very strong and have come to the conclusion yourself that you need some help and you cannot do it alone. This for me was the first step...and it is very courageous of you to recognize this. You should be proud of yourself for acknowledging what this is doing and that you want to resolve the issue.

I wish you the best of luck in your journey through this.
