What the longest people have been on Citalopram for?

I first started taking it in 2001. I'm into my 4th stage now and today have just started taking 40mg. Been on 30mg since earlier in the year.

I've been on and off this medication for 8 years.

Anyone else been on it this long? I'm scared.

John

I have only been on it for a few months, so can't talk from personal experience - but when I saw a psych from the MHT last week, he said there was no problem with taking it long-term.

Hope that puts your mind at rest.:)

My best friend's mum has been on anti-depressants (but I think it is prozac) for 15 years!

I've been on citalopram for 9 months almost to the day.

Hi John
I have been taking Citalopram since earlier this year and now on 40 mg.
I find that this dose is the best I have been on as I feel it has transformed me. I am going back to work and now my anxiety is nearly non existent mostly.
The other doses didnt do as much for me as 40mg does.
My gp wanted me to reduce it, but I complained and now I am staying on it.
I know people who have been taking medication for past 10 (Seroxat)and 15 years (Prozac) and with no side effects.
All the best with your increased dosage!:yesyes:

Superjonboy, until genuinely effective medications come along, which could be years, it's likely that a lot of people who take today's medication will be on them for a long time. To be honest, it took me 6 months to get over the first 2 months of taking citalopram, if that makes sense!
