Hello, my name is steve

I am getting to my wits end and wonder what it is i am suffering from.

I avoid certain situations because i sometimes have panic attacks when i eat from the feeling of fullness after food.
Panic occurs in public places generally where there is no quick escape, such as on a train, in the back of a moving car, ina department store, in a restaurent or in the centre of town, etc, etc.

I always seem to be looking for an exit and the feeling goes when i reach one and know i am safe and will not 'throw up' in the presence of others and make a complete fool of myself.

This problem only seems to occur after eating, so it is difficult for me to go shopping for a day and have a meal then carry on shopping or have a meal and goto the cinema.

Just today i was invited to a meal after a meeting in town on the 29th Nov and feel i have to decline because i know i will have this feeling at some stage in the meal and then cannot finish my meal / enjoy it.

I dont tend to get this feeling in familiar places.

I feel so alone and could do with some help, i have had therapy before which did not help much, but about a year ago things did seem to get better but i am regressing again into these feelings and feel my life is slowly being ruled by this problem.

Is this familiar to anyone(eating in public/bloated/panic scenario) - can anyone advise???

Many thanks

Hi steve

Welcome to the site.

You are not alone I cant go places that are new as I have panic attacks and end up running out also if a panic attack has happened in a particular place I find myself not being able to go to that place again as I think it will happen again.

I hope this site helps you as I have found it very good for advice and made many new friends.

Hello Steve

Eating also increases our metabolic rate so we breathe faster, heart goes faster etc which can make people sensitive to these issues very nervous and aware of every change within them.

Do you think your issues are mainly throwing up or the making fool of yourself when you realy examine them. Whilst they seem very intertwined they are different issues that can be tackled in different ways.

What strategies did your previous therapy entail ?

Your anxiety is the human representation of the pictures that you paint using your many vivid colours of revolving and reoccurring thoughts.

Hi there and welcome

I know the feeling you are describing. I don't enjoy going to restaurants for the very same reasons and if I do go I always look for the bathroom so I know where it is at or the exit. At times I can control it but at other times I just feel worse and worse.
I have emetophobia (fear of throwing up) so mine is related to that.

Hope this forum will be helpful to you :)

Hi there,

I don't like the feeling anymore of being too full - thanks Meg, thought it was in my head but now see the reasoning behind it.

Welcome to the site.

Hi Steve,

You are so not alone.

I have suffered from feeling that way for a few years now.
The first time it happened was when I was abroad on holiady. Me and him in doors went for a lovely meal and afterwards, I felt really sick and was burning up. I couldn't leave the toilets in a bar for an hour and left him aall on his own.
I felt that bad I was terrified of being sick in the taxi that we walked half way back to the apartment, it was a 4 mile trip and walking in heel aling a dark dusty dirt track in the middle of no where is not good at calming you down.

Anyway, I still feel a little funny eating out now incase I feel that way, so I tend to drive everywhere when I am feeling bad.
Take care hun and you will get it sorted soon!
