Are you doing it slowly and with the doctor's advice?

Hi Barbie

I 've been on diazepam for much longer than you have been on clonazepam, they r both benzodiazepines, therefore very similar.
I've been withdrawing for a while now, and from taking 6mg nightly , I am now taking 2mg only when required, which means , I can last at least a week without taking it!
So if I can do it, I am sure you can, I didnt think I d be able to do so.
You just need to do it very slowly and take your own time , so you won't suffer any withdrawal symptoms.
Can I ask whats your dosage?

Florence.

Hi

0,5 mg is a small dose ...
It's normal to feel bad when you don't take it, and anxiety makes things worse too. It will be a little tough for the first few days but will get easier and easier. It seems that you are addicted, and no addiction is easy to stop.
Instead of not taking it every other day, why not trying just one day this week, and maybe two days next week , that could be easier?
Take care.
Florence

I'm in the exact same boat. I was taking .5mg per night for about 2 years. A couple months ago, after a panic attack, I got persistent anxiety. My GP added 2 .25mg doses during the day.

I am having sleep problems and want to get off the Clonazepam. With my docs permission I started cutting back. I went too far though and cut back to .25mg per night only. After a week it caught up with me and my anxiety was so bad yesterday that I almost had another panic attack. I took an extra .25mg and felt much better and calmer, almost back to normal.

This morning though I had anxiety felings again by the time I got up. I'm trying to drink some green tea and relax. I wish I could sleep.

What I am getting at is that Clonazepam (Klonopin) is very addictive, and you are not alone. It's even a street drug here in the US. I guess we will have to go off of it very slowly and over a long time. It won't be fun until it is over!

By the way, my anxiety Counselor said I would have a hard time getting off the C, and she said she would never prescribe that stuff to anyone, that it is too addictive and does bad things to the brain.

Good luck. I hope we are both successful.

I've been taking it for at least 2 years. I started taking it because I have restless leg syndrome which was causing insomnia symptoms.

Anti depressants such as SSRIs ( Citalopram , Escitalopram oxalate , Fluoxetine , Fluvoxamine maleate , Paroxetine , Sertraline , Trazodone , etc... ).
They r not as addictive from my own experience , but they require a much longer time to act ( at least a couple of weeks ).

You can always try natural remedies ( bach flowers, st johns wort , valerian , etc.. ) they can help. http://shop.healthydirect.co.uk/symptom-template.asp?symptom=Anxiety

Hope that helps.

Just an update. I have succcessfully begun to get off this stuff. My problem before is that I cut back too much too soon.

Klonopin and Clonazepam need to be reduced very gradually and over a long time. I'm gona try and do it over a 2 month period.

Right now I'm at .5mg every night (down from .75mg), and the morning does of .25mg I've reduced to taking every other day.

Next week I'll try reducing my nightly .5mg dose to only every other night with a .25mg dose on the off nights.

I'll let you know how it goes. My problem is compounded by severe restless legs at night.

I am coming off Lustral at the moment with the help of my GP. I was on 100mgs daily (one tab) for the last two weeks I have taken 50mgs daily. Up to now I have had no side effects at all, if anything I feel more in control of myself. I do my relaxation every morning as soon as I wake up. (no problems with sleep at all) I am due to see the doctor again in 2 weeks. She is very easy to talk to and a great help.
