Your anxiety is the human representation of the pictures that you paint using your many vivid colours of revolving and reoccurring thoughts.

I totally know that one!

I found the more I worried about not eating the more I anxious i got and therefore couldn't eat!

I'm only small, 5'1" and just under 7 stone. During a bad anxious/depression episode I lost a stone, which being my weight is not ideal.

It does get better in time. I found just eating what I could whenever helped, even if its just a biscuit or a piece of fruit. I went through a stage where i could only eat crunchy things, raw carrot, apples, couldn't stand anything soft!

I also drank a build up drink, which you can buy from chemists called Complan, you mix it with milk. I felt better if I could manage this drink, as it helped me to stop worrying about not eating because this milk shake is a small snack in a glass, at least I was getting some goodness if I couldn't manage lunch - I'm not saying its a subsititue for food, it helped me when the appitite went.

I'm still trying to put the pounds back on. I find it hard to gain weight. I think because I'm in a constant anxious state I burn more calories. My heart is always racing.

Good luck and remember just eat what you can, even if its just jelly and ice-cream, its better than nothing.

I've lost over 10% of my weight in a short space of time.... which isn't necessarily a bad thing..... but it has added to my anxiety. And so I lose more weight worrying about that and so on and so on.

However, I'm not aware that I've been eating less. Apparently you burn off a lot of energy when you are anxious.... even if you are sitting on your batty looking at telly all the time.

To counteract this I started taking a nutritional supplement last week (Vivioptal). I've also tried to force a couple of pints of Guinness into my system on a regular basis (really hard work heh heh heh hic!).

Reading the posts on this forum you'll find that weight loss is fairly common amongst those of us who are of a nervous disposition.

Don't worry about it. It's normal.

Hi marianne, I went through the same thing about 2 years ago when i had a return of a bad bout of anxiety but i did feel sick through the smell of some foods i have always liked. I lost well over a stone and this worried me so much. but however this like other anxiety symtoms wasnt long lived and it went in about 4 to six weeks. I forced myself to eat every morning i would have a light cerial and even if it was a tin of soup or a couple of boiled eggs I did eat a little daily (drinking plenty of fruit juce etc is also wery important. Try not to control your anxiety and fear with alcohol I did this and became very dependent and addicted to drink. I started drinking becouse it made me feel relaxed and able to do lots of things i couldnt normaly do, but this led to 40 years of heavy and daily drinking which made my liver pretty bad so gave up drink 2 years ago. Drinking alcohol will do you much more harm over the years that a temporary lack of eating. Anyway dont worry (easier said than done) these symtoms will go in time and dont use alcohol as medication it realy isnt worth the trouble you can get in. hope you feel better soon. Vernon
