I have had to totally restore my pc due to antivirus system pro, despite having Norton antivirus.

I don't know how I was infected -some people say internet explorer updates, but basically it starts running a scan and says you have various viruses, trojans etc. It will then ask you to pay to get it fixed (in the mean time your pc goes haywire, porn etc coming up). It is all bogus of course.

I tried all the online solutions to get rid of it, but couldn't. It wouldn't let me access task manager, delete programs, system restore, search and even wouldn't let me reboot in safe mode (I tried several ways to do that) .. it wouldn't let me do anything, it totally took over!

Just wanted to warn people if they get infected with it not to pay anything. I am no computer wizz kid, but it made me very wary.

There are loads of sites offering quick fixes, at a price, or manuel fixes, but in my case they didn't work.

Anyone who has any info to become more aware of things like that, i would really apperciate it and also how I can make my pc more secure.

Many thanks xx

www.filehippo.com have alook on there for top notch firewalls and anti virus programs, adaware, spyware etc.

The guys that run it focus on quality programs, and i have used the site many times and it is all free ofcourse :D

I only use free stuff and i have no problems, i use zone alarm firewall, spybot and adaware for spyware and Avira anti virus for my antivirus program, all can be downloaded from here and all are free and work great.

Im retired from a major computer firm.I actually worked with computers before there were PC's..Best thing to do ...Don't leave your computer on without you being there for extended periods...Try to download a free software from zonealarm.com ..Its a great firewall .,I have used it for many years.. Also never click on anything. I mean ANYTHING that you are sure of,Don't click on the x or the no or anythiing ,Just reach behind and unplug your internet connection and then push the button and shut it down.

Wait a few minutes and then plug the connection back in and start again. Also download explorer 8 and use it. Set your computer to let you download the required updates. Don't use windows firewall and also try to keep at least three browsers. firefox, google chrome and explorer 8 ..

Norton has always been known to cause problems.. I can say this for sure.. as I worked in the industry many years. Also download windows free virus protection and use it.Its called windows essentials..Go to microsoft.com and download it for free.Run a deep scan everyday .It will automatically update.

Don't download a bunch of free programs are go to any site that is offering free this or that..it usually leads to virus and spyware or trojans.. I don't know if any of this will help you but like I said..If you get a pop up that says something you aren't sure of.Unplug and hit the button on your computer and then wait a minute and plug back in and then restart. If you got a copy of zonealarm it ask you when programs are suppose to be running which ones are and which aren't..

If I can help..in anyway please let me know..Michael
