Hi there, I'm Julia, 24 and from Warwickshire. I am new to this 'wonderful' world of Panic Attacks I have just found this site and it is SO good to know that I am a. not alone and b. not going mad!

I started having panic attacks about three weeks ago now, my first one came completely out of the blue whilst driving home from my boyfriends place one night. He lives about half an hour away and all I remember is being really tired that evening before having the attack. Halfway through my journey back home, I suddenly felt really 'unreal', like I was in a dream or something- is this feeling normal in a panic attack?!, I felt dizzy, my hands became cold and clammy, and I just felt terrified and spaced out, it was awful [xx(]

Somehow I made it back home, and within a few minutes of being in the house, I was fine, a little shaken up, but otherwise ok.

Unfortunately, since then, driving at night has not been too great for me :-( I've had a few scary feelings since, one slightly 'milder' panic attack (last night), whilst driving home.

I don't have depression, so I've not got a clue where this has come from. Nor do panic attacks run in my family.

The 'unreal' feeling has come over me, on and off, over the past few weeks, probably because I am worrying so much about these attacks!!
It's not a nice feeling to have, when I'm driving an in control of a car, and feeling like my head is 'closing down'

I'm going to buy some Bach Rescue Remedy to see if that helps.
I'd be really interested to hear from anyone who has experienced this feeling of unreality, especially if you have panic attacks whilst driving.

Can they be triggered by tiredness? I'm not sure that it's just a coincidence that I am fine when driving to work in the morning!

my email is BCFCforever@aol.com, I'd love to hear from any of you.

Julia xx

hello Julia,

Welcome aboard!! :)

Yes, panic attacks can be caused by tiredness. I had my first panic attack after a few nights of not sleeping very much. Feeling 'unreal' is also very common - I'm pretty sure that most of us have experienced this at some point.

I also have a problem with driving, especially at night. Seems silly as I'm normally fine during the day.

Buying Bach's Rescue Remedy is a good idea. It really does take the edge off the anxiety.

Hope we can offer you some good support here!!

Hello Julia

'I was in a dream or something- is this feeling normal in a panic attack?!@

Yes . Its called depersonalization and is common.

The rest of what you report is also normal.

Being exhausted is also very usual . Take a long hard look at your lifestyle and see if you need to make any changes...

Hi Julia and welcome, it is so good you have found us early on and not suffered alone, as the others have said, what you are suffering is normal, but I also guess that because your first panic was whilst night driving you will probably associate it now and think it is going to happen again, my first major one was whilst getting ready to go to an Indian restaurant and again at the Indian, I was months before I could walk past that, and even longer before I could get ready to go out again. Just a thought, take care.
