Today I had pain come up in my neck on the left side in the back, accompanied with (or caused by) a really sore gland in my throat on the front left side. The pain seems to be related and it's been the same for about 6 hours now, so I have started worrying that it could be somethig serious like meningitus. How do I know when I should call a doctor? How can I not panic - would I know if I have meningitus before it's too late?

Hi, my son has had meningitus. Do you have a rash that doesn't blanch against a glass? Is your temperature high? Can you bear to look at the light?

These are all things my son had. I really doesn't sound like meningitus, but of course if in doubt call your doctor.

Best wishes and Happy Christmas.

I have no idea what meningitus is but i dont dare to google it:scared15:

I can only say that i have alot of problems with my neck, tension and pain.
Sometimes also the muscles in the throat are tensed.

If it was meningitis, you'd know about it. I get a stiff neck all the time, sometimes lasting for a couple of days. When it first happened of course I was convinced it was meningitis. One of the symptoms of meningitis is sensitivity to bright lights, so I tend to stare at lamps to ease my mind when I get neck ache! Considering all the tension we carry around in that area it's an unsurprising symptom. It'll ease with sleep.

No, not meningitis. Like people have said before, if it was meningitis you would know it. You'd have the worst headache of your life, not be able to move your neck, light sensitivity, HIGH fever, petechial rash, etc.
You would be so sick you wouldn't be able to type this.
