Hi, my name is Philip, and I've been suffering from anxiety for about 4 years. This is my first time to be on a forum.
I mostly suffer from generalized anxiety now, but three years ago I experienced hellish panic attacks. I did not want to regularly use a drug, but my doctor finally convinced me to use clonazepam, which I am now dependent on. I have used alcohol in the past for anxiety too, and probably would now if I experienced high levels of anxiety. (I'm just being honest!) Other than that, I don't drink excessively.
I have been a heavy smoker for many years and have to decided to quit. I was concerned about the relationship between panic and nicotine (I thought nicotine was calming) so when I checked out this info on the net in preparation for quitting, I was surprised to find that in general, nicotine WORSENS anxiety, rather than relieving it. With that info, I'm definitely off the fags soon, and I do not smoke nearly as much now as I used to. Anyway, during that search I found the link to this site. I'm so glad to be able to message with people who understand.
Thanks,
Philip
