My BF has been taking Prozac 40mgs for 2 years although he was only diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety disorder about 6 months ago. We have recently moved and our new GP isn't very understanding and doesn't say alot.

BF's symptoms are severe at the moment, and I can't see that the Prozac is doing much good??? He is extremely agitated, nervous, stressed, over worried, headaches, bad stomach etc etc. It has been suggested that he should try Cognitive Behavioural Therapy but the waiting list is huge!!!!

Any comments about if Prozac is helpful / not helpful would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

No, I wouldn't think Prozac would be the right choice. It can be used for depression/OCD with anxiety but not GAD.

Escitalopram, paroxetine, venlafaxine, pregabalin are all better choices and are approved for this condition. Also, don't give up on the CBT - it's worth waiting for if you can get it.

Hope this helps you both.
