New member/crazy and embarrassed

Hi, everyone and happy 2010

I hope this 2010 will be a lot better. I have health anxiety with a strong fear of cancer. I get yearly health checkups and mammograms, but the fear of waiting for diagnostic tests drives me crazy! Also, I'm planning to change my general practitioner MD, because he seems to feed into my anxiety. I believe in prevenative medicine, but he goes over board with invasive tests, and he rarely does any treatment, and just hands me over to a specialist. I guess I'm overly sensitive to illnesses and suffering, my dad tends to be this way, too. Next week, I will be looking for a new family md and a mental health therapist because this has been going off and on for two decades!

hia hon.. i am sure you will get the support you need on here.

you sound to me very much in control of your situation. you believe in preventative meds and are changing things to get the help you need. well done!!!

lots of us on here have health anxiety issues.. i worry about everything... its rediculous... i am gradually getting better though.. i think i am starting to understand that i need to change my thought patterns.. i need to stop the negative thinking.

i fear everything.. headaches.. travelling... fires... you name it . i worry about it.. but i am gettign better. i am on citalopram now which is helping me to stay positive i think and helping me to help myself... i have been like this before and recovered well so i see no reason why i cant do it again..
i hope you start to feel etter soon and get the help that you need .. have you tried hypnotherapy - someone i know had it and said it was marvelous.
