View Full Version : Citalopram - Severe Digestive Problems Side Effects?

My 82 year old Dad's now started getting severe stomach pain and almost uncontrollable diarrhea (I've never been able to spell that word correctly...). He's been taking 10mgs of Citaliopram for at most a week now (hard to calculate as his anxiety led him to be suspicious of the meds and Mum only took control of administering them on Wednesday).

Does anyone else have experience of this as a Citalopram side-effect?
Or is it an anxiety side effect?
Or is it something else entirely?

Grateful for any advice,

Thank you,
DNW

Its is a problem for some people im afraid .Being his age! and I expect he isnt as mobile as he was ? isnt as easy to deal with as being younger .The elderley do seem to have problems with these sort of side effects more so .I would speak to his Dr and ask if there is something he can perscribe to help him thru this period .Immodium will help but it will cause problems if taken for too long .Marshmallows ,do help also ,but not too many as they will cause a blockage effect like immodium if you eat too many . Take care Sue x
