hi everyone~ ,
I am new to this website and new to anxiety disorder as well. sighs
I am 27 years old male from usa, and i am single. I had a terrible panic attack on the night of thanksgiving day, a month ago. I had racing heart beat and almost passed out while i was dining at a fancy japanese restaurant. I had lots of caffeine that day. I went to the emergency room, had my heart checked *ECG*, everything turned out to be fine. The doctor gave me a pill and i was send home. It was 5am when i got home, i took a shower and slept like a baby. The next day, i was feeling normal, nothing wrong at all for the whole day. But when i go to bed, think about the attack the night before, boommmm, i had a 2nd panic attack, but this time is different, my body shaks and chills but no dizzyness or going to passed out kinda feeling. It felt like i was out naked in a snowy winter night. I had some hot water and rinsed my hands with warm water then chat a bit online, and i was able to clam down and sleep around 4am. Well, the next day I went to see my family doctor, and she gave me paxil 10mg. I started to check online regarding to my panic attacks and found so much information about them along with medications such as the one my doctor prescribed me. Well, I decided not to take the meds because I afraid of side effects and all. In the following days , i was able to shake off the chest pains and all, and made myself able to sleep quite nicely at night with a few flip flops whenever i sensed a surge of anxiety in me. After about a week, I started to felt like my oldself again, normal!!!! appetites were back, sleeps were pretty ok, libido was just fine. However, it lasted about 3 weeks, and one night *just 4 nights ago*, while trying to sleep, I ignored and skipped the flip flop routine for the past 3 weeks whenever there is a little surge of anxiety in the initial state of sleep, i felt a increased of heart beats and palpitation all of a sudden~. Thank god, I reacted fast enough and quickly calmed it down before it became a full blown panic attack. The next day, I felt terrible. No appetites, I felt palpitations and litle chest pain and a litle fatigue. Again i didn't take any meds. It's been 3 days now, I felt the palpitation every night, but i discovered a way to stop them from acting up, of course i will share this with all of you who has palpitation caused by anxiety or GAD. Anyways, today i feel a lot better, not much palpitation during the day, an no palpitation at night for sure even since I discovered the way to stop them, as long as i can stay asleep and sleep tight, I feel very normal the next time, i mean 100% recovered the next time.
I also have some background histories with panic attacks. First of all, I went to asia alot , at least once a year, and just this September I came back from a trip to asia. The first night back, I slept very early, due to the time difference, but I woke up after the inital hour of sleep, my legs were numbed, felt pins are in there, and my heart raced, but it didnt' bother me, i moved my legs around and back to sleep i went. If i knew that was a sign, i could have prevented all these panic attacks that i just have sighs. And also, back in China, I was suffocated with people smoking, and one night i was with a crowd that smokes heavily, I went home to sleep, while sleeping my heart raced and I had difficulty breathing. I stood up and opened up a window and breath for a bit and everything went back to normal.. Sighs.. these were all the signs...
Anyways, this is my story. Thanks for taking time to read my story.
My newly discovered way to overcome palpitation caused by anxiety is that I tap my fingers to make beats. Well, let me explain. I like playing drums, therefore I like beats, I can make beats with my fingers and feet at the same time to make rhythms. Now, all you have to do when you feel the palpitations are appearing, just tap your fingers on your pillow so that you won't disturb your partner or whoever nearby you, slightly enough so that you
