I see a counsellor once a week but what I want to know is what is the difference between them two is counselling regarded as a therapy? as i've always associated psychotherapy as a more medical word or more posher what do you think?
To a certain extent, the terms counselling and psychotherapy are interchangeable - and broadly would come under the over-arching term of "talking therapies". Talking therapies would encompass a range of differing approaches e.g. behaviour therapy, cognitive therapy, CBT, psychodynamic etc.
Depending on the professional you see, and their training, they may refer to themselves as a counsellor or psychotherapist. Or they may be something like a psychologist, psychiatrist, nurse, OT etc. who specialise in certain therapies...
Not sure if that helps...:wacko::wacko:
