Hi Carol - forgot about the festival - I've never really seen much of it apart from some of the street performers.
I was in Edinburgh last week, and I saw some of the street performers too....a fireeater, and a juggler, in particular.
In addition to the ongoing fringe, you have the natural pool of tourists taking photos all over the gardens, and that makes me uneasy when out.
Im not good with crowds.

From most responses on here, a Glasgowish Meet would be the common sense approach.
If someone here from that area was willing to help setup and host this event, I would be prepared to help in any other way to get this actually working.
The demand is there....its just finding the right character(s) to at least get it off and running.
id be up for a glasgow meet anyone else ?

How do you get by on a daily basis?
On another note, as Ive said before, I am working on a meeting "initiative", so watch this space.

I'm in Glasgow!!
Scotland is divided into three main regions; the Highlands, the Midland Valley and the Southern Uplands. The cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee together with numerous towns, most of the population and the majority of Scotland's industry is located within the Midland Valley. This broad valley averages 50 miles across and runs WSW to ENE across the centre of the country. It is geologically distinct from the surrounding regions, being composed of Devonian Old Red Sandstone, peppered with ancient volcanoes, as against the older sedimentary rocks forming the Southern Uplands or the ancient metamorphic melange, comprising the Highlands to the north. Scotland is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. Occupying the northern third of the island of Great Britain, it shares a border with England to the south and is bounded by the North Sea to the east, the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west, and the North Channel and Irish Sea to the southwest. In addition to the mainland, Scotland includes over 790 island including the Northern Isles and the Hebrides.

Yeh, there has been plenty of interest in such things getting started. I tried a while back, then a small group of folkies turned into one then none, as the days to the meet edged closer.
I did refer a while back here to potentially starting something up, with the specific intention of serving peeps wanting to socialise in Scotland. That option is still open, however, life circumstances had forced it onto the backfoot.
Hi guys i am from Livingston and it would be great to be able to meet folk and chat about things =]

ok peeps, there is clearly interest in meeting up from this thread - just needing someone to be the catalyst for this to take off.
consequently, ive set up a Closed group (initially - once first intake of members has started, ill change it to Secret) on Facebook called Affinity. To avoid my post being binned, id recommend searching for it there (should come up as first link).
The purpose of the group will be a base in which meets can be directly managed from. I also feel that this will provide more transparency to potential members.
If there is genuine interest from you all, then please approach me via my fb profile.

brilliant idea alex,
you coming to join us too?
Mr Parfect
04-10-11, 23:41
bottleblond,
I had thought of this, and acknowledge this may one area that may be difficult to accommodate.
However, with an ability to take advantage of the visual aids on fb, we would set out clear instructions of where the venue would be. Once a meet was set, any geographical aspects would not be altered.
I would also envisage that, the more members who join up to this initiative, the more chance we may have to help bring others to/from venue if needed.
Like ive said, ive been part of this thread for months, and seen many members come say id like to go to a meet, then disappear because nothing happens.
The group would provide a sole purpose in the management and co-ordination of meets around scotland.
Otherwise, many people based in Scotland, such as yourself, miss out altogether.

AFFINITY was launched days ago to help provide an exclusive platform for the management of NMP meets in Scotland.
Just as a small update, this new group AFFINITY has 5 members so far. I acknowledge my guidance to join the group may have been hazy initially.
If you are interested, PM me, and I can send you direct link to the group.

Mr Parfect

undecided as of yet.
Location should be a mutual venue for all those going. However, this can be influenced if those wanting to attend mainly eminate from one area. i.e Glasgow, Edinburgh, etc.
If there is an interest in meeting up, PM me for the fb link.

AFFINITY got off to a flier, providing the first ever proper Scottish meet of members here from NMP.
Through the determination and passion of members looking to make new friends irl, this achievement was made.
This now paves the way for future meets.
If you would be interested in meeting up with folks in Scotland, PM myself for details on how to join.

Hi I am just new here and from Scotland. Currently just outside Edinburgh in Midlothian. Struggling alot right now as husband left me on Saturday and I have no one else at all due to my anxiety disorders and depressive illness.
Would be interested in the Facebook group.
just outside Glasgow so if any meet ups would be interested in coming along :)
for anybody interested in the facebook group, its a secret group so if you post anything your friends wont find out about your anxiety issues. we've got our next meetup planned for the end of the month in glasgow so if your interested in going or joining generally then message me or colin from a page back with your email and name and we'll do the deed to get you in the group
