Hi,
I have just got back from my attempt to get to the shop. I got about a 1/4 of the way before i rushed back home feeling sorry for myself.

I know almost everything there is to know about panic and how to cope with it (i have read so many books) yet when it strikes i cant do any of this. I feel completely hopeless. I can give others advice but not follow my own advice.
I know that nothing will happen to me and that its just anxiety so why do i still fear it so much?
Can anyone else relate to this?
Thanks
Poppy

When anxiety hits I always find it is so hard to apply all the advice becuase logic goes out of the window and panic takes its place.

I think it takes practice and patience and perserverence to get past those feelings.

Well done for giving it a go, next time you'll make it all the way!

Hi Poppy,

When my anxiety was really bad, I used to be exactly the same, I would run home all the time, as soon as I was home I used to be so angry with myself for letting the feelings rule me and take over my life.

Try doing it a step at a time, go a little further each day, until you reach your goal. Try to look at something infront of you and keep focusing on that as you are walking, remember to stay positive and you will be able to do it.

Take care

i can totally relate... You wont beleive this, but I am actually trained in counseling! I can talk my clients through panic attacks, explain to them everything about anxiety... but when it hits me I am a blundering idiot who is convinced I'm about to die! I think it just takes practice to gain control of ourselves.

Don't even try to get to the shop tomorrow. Just go a few doors up and just stand there for 5 mins watching the world go by. If you feel ok - go a few extra meters and then do the same again

Are you already part of the No Panic telephone recovery service, if not you might want to look into joining it .
