Hi everyone again posted on here a few days ago about having a suspicious looking black mark removed off my toenail. The specialist is checking that it isn't melanoma and I am still petrified.I have just come back from the hospital after having my toenail removed and the horrible looking blob thing was sent off to the lab.My foot is pretty sore and the surgeon who did the procedure said that it wasn't charteristic of a bruise once she had reached it on the nailbed.I wish I hadn't asked her as I am convinced now that it is cancer.I have to wait a few days for the result and I know my stomach will be in this knot until then. She also said that if the bruise was old then it may look dark and wierd like it did so I am hoping it is just that.I do have a very vague memory of knocking it way back in November time at work so could it be that?Anyway I still have to go to work tomorrow with this injury as Tesco arn't sympathetic and I just hope I can manage the pain.I am really scared and worried and need some words of comfort.xxxxxxx

First, we all can say we somewhat know how you feel!! I know that "pit" feeling in your stomach and panic! And then you wonder how the heck your going to make it through the day at work! You are going to make it through the day!! Before you know it you will be home!!

Now as for your ugly "blob" - the chances of it being any type of cancer will be slim. I did want to tell you my mother (who is a saint) had melanoma and lived through everything. I don't want to say it wasn't a big deal - of course it was - but now that I look back...she had it all removed and now ever year she goes in for a check up and that is about it!

We always think the worst of everything and usually make ourselves sicker! Well, at least I do! The truth is, you are going to be fine!!

I think if you catch melanoma early you will be fine, it's leaving it for years like some people that will mess you up. A lot of people don't check themselves for changing moles/etc.

Please keep us updated.

Thanks guys for your replies,I am so pleased your mum is fine Barbn, but it must have been a horrible worry at the time.
I think looking at it that it's better to know than to be in the dark with these things. The specialist at the initial consultation said that my gp was good in that she has referred me straight away instead of waiting,as some people they see have it in the advanced stages by then and it is a different story.
I will definitely keep you all updated and let you know the results, good or bad!!!!.Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me.
